Michael Carrick has insisted that questions over his Manchester United future are premature, describing talk of his job being under immediate threat as “ridiculous” after a difficult opening six matches of the season.

Carrick also rejected the suggestion that he must become more animated on the touchline or in media duties. He said defeats affect him, but that visible anger would not alter his judgement on the steps required to put results right.
