Raphinha Wants Barcelona Contract Extension Beyond 2028
Raphinha has made clear that he wants to remain at Barcelona beyond 2028 and would welcome talks over another contract extension, having begun the season as Hansi Flick’s captain and La Liga’s leading scorer.
The Brazilian forward’s existing deal runs until the summer of 2028, but Barcelona sporting director Deco has already signalled the club’s intention to discuss his longer-term future. Raphinha, who was the subject of heavy transfer speculation during the summer, now says his form and fitness have altered the way he views the final years of his career.
“When I extended until 2028, I thought that by then I would be 30 or 31 and I did not know how I would be,” Raphinha said in an interview with RAC1. “But with the way I have started the season, I see that I have enough to continue for a few more years. I would be happy to extend the contract a bit and end my career here, without needing to go anywhere else.”
Flick handed Raphinha the armband at the start of the campaign, making him Barcelona’s first captain, and the added responsibility has coincided with a prolific run in front of goal. He has scored nine league goals to lead the scoring standings in Spain as Barcelona make an impressive opening to their domestic season.
His recent displays have also strengthened Barcelona’s desire to keep him. Raphinha scored a hat-trick against Racing Santander and followed that with two goals in a 5-1 Champions League victory over Feyenoord, underlining his importance across both domestic and European competition.
Sevilla next for Barcelona captain
Barcelona return to league action on Saturday away to Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, where Raphinha will look to build on his nine-goal tally. The match comes before another important Champions League period for Flick’s side, with their captain carrying both goalscoring form and a renewed commitment to the club’s long-term project.
