Morgan Gibbs-White’s Fiancée Reacts to England Squad Omission
Morgan Gibbs-White has been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad despite a strong opening to the Premier League season, with the Nottingham Forest midfielder’s omission prompting a pointed social-media response from his fiancée, Britney De Villiers.

De Villiers highlighted Gibbs-White’s creative output after the squad was announced, posting that he is the sole player this season to have made at least five chances in a single Premier League fixture. The 26-year-old has begun the campaign with one goal and two assists from four appearances at the City Ground.
Tuchel insisted the decision was based on balance within the group rather than any doubt over the Forest player’s quality. Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze were chosen for the attacking-midfield positions, leaving no room for another player of a similar profile.
“There is no point in naming three, four or five number 10s,” Tuchel said when asked about Gibbs-White’s absence. “It does not help anybody.”
The England head coach nevertheless recognised Gibbs-White’s importance to Forest. He said the midfielder finished the previous season “very, very strongly” and was central to the club avoiding relegation, while also acknowledging his current form.
Tuchel’s message extended to those included in the squad, particularly Palmer. A recall, he argued, does not guarantee a place in the side. Players must deliver for England to retain their shirts and justify selection, with Palmer told he must produce the performances and numbers required at international level.
England now move into a demanding Nations League period featuring matches against Spain, the Czech Republic and Croatia. The fixtures will provide an early examination of Tuchel’s preferred attacking options as he brings returning players into a squad still recovering from its summer disappointment.
For Gibbs-White, attention returns to Forest and the chance to make a renewed case through his club form. He was also absent from England’s World Cup squad earlier this year, and the latest selection leaves him needing to persuade the coaching staff that he deserves a route back into the international set-up.
