Season 9 overview and launch timing
Season 9 of Marvel Rivals is set to roll out on July 10, 2026. This season breakdown is intended as a single reference for everything currently known about what’s coming in Season 9, including the release date.
New Hero: Jubilee
Jubilee is the newest Hero added to the roster and she plays as a Strategist. Her kit revolves around controlling energy plasmoids—she can heal teammates with them while also using the same concept to damage and blind opponents. Her Ultimate ability culminates in a large firework-style burst, giving her team presence both defensively and offensively.
New map: Thebes
Thebes is the next Convoy map to enter the rotation, debuting on July 23, 2026. At the moment, the available information about how the map plays out is limited.
Path to Doomsday event (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
After the update lands on July 30, 2026, the next Path to Doomsday installment—Avengers: Age of Ultron—will be available as a new game mode. In this mode, players push into Avengers Tower and Ultron’s Data Space to battle Ultron and the forces under his control.
Alongside the mode itself, themed events will also appear in the Times Square lobby, giving players extra activities to check out while they’re between matches.
Team-Up Abilities overhaul
Season 9 brings a significant overhaul to Team-Up Abilities: every Hero will have two independent Team-Up Ability loadouts. The contents of these loadouts can differ—some will introduce brand new abilities, while others will replace previously existing base abilities.
Before a match starts, you’ll be able to choose which loadout you want to use based on your preferred playstyle. If you decide you want to change mid-session, you can do so freely in the Spawn Room.
Each Team-Up loadout includes a Base Effect and an Enhanced Effect. The Base Effect is the core Team-Up package, covering the controls, underlying mechanics, and visuals. The Enhanced Effect functions as a buff layer on top of the Base Effect, and some Enhanced Effects may also add extra variations to the ability. The Enhanced Effect is conditional: it requires the Team-Up member to be actively playing in the match. Meanwhile, the Base Effect is active by default regardless.
All Team-Up abilities released since launch have been reviewed to determine what best fits the new Team-Up system structure. That means you should expect some Team-Ups to return, alongside entirely new options.
Black Widow rework
Black Widow’s rework is designed to keep her overall playstyle intact while improving balance. Her ADS sniper mode has been removed from her standard state, and her primary attack’s fire rate has been increased. The charged electro-plasma blast that was previously part of her Ultimate is now available normally, where it can damage enemies and apply a slow effect on hit.
With those changes in place, her Ultimate now functions as her ADS sniper mode. It will remain active for a set period of time or until she fires a specific number of bullets. Critical hits no longer allow one-shot kills, but the sniper bullet hitbox width has been significantly increased to compensate. Her sniper rounds can also pierce through enemies. Even without critical hits, her shots will still deal very high damage, and there is no damage falloff at range.
In addition, Black Widow’s sprint and super-jump no longer have stamina limitations, though her spinning kick remains. A new airborne ability lets her launch toward a chosen target location and then slam down with her Widow’s Bite Gauntlets, dealing area-of-effect damage.
