Manchester United Scout Club Brugge Left-Back Joaquin Seys

Manchester United are monitoring Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys as they assess longer-term cover and competition for Luke Shaw, following unsuccessful moves for Nathaniel Brown and Lewis Hall during the summer window.

Seys emerges in United’s left-back planning

United have sent scouts to watch Seys, who produced two assists in Club Brugge’s 3-0 win against Genk. The 20-year-old is under contract with the Belgian club until the middle of 2029, leaving Brugge in a strong position should interest develop into negotiations.

• Christopher Vivell, United’s director of recruitment, is understood to rate Seys highly.
• The defender is being considered either as an alternative to Shaw or as a potential successor in the position.

Shaw’s availability remains a concern

The need for another left-sided defender is linked to Shaw’s recent fitness record. The 31-year-old has appeared in four Premier League matches this season and registered one assist, but has also missed three matchday squads in all competitions.

Shaw arrived at Old Trafford in 2014 and is contracted until June 2027. Across his United career, he has made 329 appearances, scoring five times, while winning the Europa League, FA Cup, two League Cups and the Community Shield.

Hall remains a possible future option

Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall has not been completely ruled out of United’s plans. A reported £75 million valuation deterred the club late in the previous transfer window, but there remains a belief that the situation could change next year.

Tyrone Marshall said on the United! United! United! YouTube channel that a Hall move was plausible, despite the distance from the next window: “It is difficult to judge with eight months to go, but I think there is a good chance they sign Lewis Hall next year.”

For now, Seys offers United another route as Carrick and the recruitment department weigh the timing of any defensive addition. Their decision will centre on whether Shaw requires immediate support in January or whether a summer move better suits the club’s longer-term left-back rebuild.
