Klopp condemns Germany squad leaks over impact on debut call-ups

Jürgen Klopp has criticised the early disclosure of his first squad selections, arguing that leaked call-ups can take away from a defining moment for players receiving international recognition for the first time.

1. Klopp said he was not personally concerned by news emerging before an official announcement, but questioned the value of making a living from publishing such information prematurely.
2. Several names from his inaugural squad had appeared in advance in recent days, prompting Klopp to say the pursuit of exclusive stories had diminished a special occasion for debut call-ups.
3. He urged greater restraint, saying that not every development needed to be turned immediately into a major story.
4. The 59-year-old had already set out his expectations at his first press conference, insisting that everyone connected to the project must contribute to its success and asking for his family and private life to be left alone.
5. He has now extended that message to his players, seeking to limit external distraction around the squad.

Ebnoutalib’s call-up celebration

Klopp made clear that he had no complaint about Younes Ebnoutalib revealing his own selection. The Eintracht Frankfurt forward spoke about the news after being approached while shopping and later posted a video on social media.

Ebnoutalib sent Klopp the clip and apologised, but the coach told him there was nothing to worry about. Klopp said the video showed a young player overcome with excitement, an emotion he wants the group to retain.

The coach also outlined why the 23-year-old had been included. Ebnoutalib has returned from a serious injury, and Klopp said the staff had reached their decision on the striker relatively quickly. His first-half display against Union, in which he scored three goals, had been particularly impressive.

Klopp described Ebnoutalib as a major talent despite his age, adding that the forward has already experienced a great deal in his career.
