Former Italy midfielder Luigi Di Biagio believes the contrast between the clubs is clear: Roma can pursue the title with ambition, while Inter’s resources and recent history mean silverware is the minimum target. “Inter have to win because of the players they possess and what they have achieved in recent years,” he said. “Inter have the obligation; Roma have the hope.”

Chivu has sought to give Inter a more assertive identity this season, particularly through a higher defensive line designed to disrupt opponents early in their build-up. Di Biagio nevertheless argued that the issue is one of concentration rather than a flaw in the manager’s overall plan. He said Inter can appear less secure defensively, but maintained that Chivu is right not to abandon his principles. The coach’s willingness to preserve that proactive style was described as a positive, especially when major fixtures tend to sharpen the players’ focus.
In midfield, Zielinski has taken on greater responsibility during Calhanoglu’s absence. Although not naturally developed as a deep-lying playmaker, the Poland international has been able to perform the role effectively alongside Curtis Jones, giving Chivu another flexible option in the centre of the pitch.
Chivu has also stood by goalkeeper Josep Martinez after the recent mistakes made while playing out from the back in Madrid. Di Biagio said that visible errors should not alter a manager’s duty to support a player he trusts, particularly in a system that requires the goalkeeper to be involved in possession. “The essential thing is confidence,” he said.
Inter intend to build steadily before making a fuller assessment of their prospects in March, when the demands of the season across domestic and European fronts will become clearer.
