Johan Manzambi Commits to Aston Villa Despite Liverpool and Barcelona Interest
Aston Villa midfielder Manzambi is not considering an early exit from the club despite growing interest from Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. The Swiss international moved from SC Freiburg in July for €60 million and has quickly become an important figure in Unai Emery’s side.
Villa move remains the priority
Manzambi signed a deal running to June 2031 when he joined Villa, and he is understood to be very settled following his move to England. Although the youngster has ambitions to reach the very top of the game, he believes Villa offers the right setting to develop under Emery.
That position is likely to frustrate the clubs tracking his progress. Liverpool have been particularly closely linked, with Andoni Iraola and his staff impressed by the midfielder’s early displays. Liverpool intend to follow him for the rest of the campaign and could consider a move next summer.
A fast start in England and Europe
Manzambi has made an immediate impact since arriving from Freiburg, adapting smoothly to Premier League football while also producing in the Champions League.
- He has recorded two goals and two assists in four Premier League appearances.
- He registered a goal and an assist during Villa’s 6-0 Champions League win against Fenerbahce.
- He scored the only goal in Saturday’s 1-0 league victory over Newcastle United.
The winner against Newcastle further underlined his value to Villa at the start of the season, while his contribution against Fenerbahce showed he can influence matches on the European stage as well.
European admirers keep watch
Barcelona are among the sides to have taken notice of Manzambi’s transition into English football. Bayern Munich also remain admirers, having followed him closely during his time with Freiburg.
For now, however, neither the Spanish champions nor Bayern are expected to have an opening. Manzambi’s focus is on continuing his progress at Villa, where he sees the chance to work with Emery as central to his development. Liverpool and Barcelona, along with Bayern, may therefore need to wait before any future approach becomes realistic.
