Rio Ngumoha Focused on Liverpool First Team Despite Arsenal Rumours
Rio Ngumoha remains under contract with Liverpool until June 2028 and says his attention is on contributing to the first team rather than speculation over his future. The teenage forward has continued to build his involvement under head coach Andoni Iraola, having appeared in five of the Reds’ opening seven league matches this season.

Ngumoha first entered the senior picture in January 2025, when he became Liverpool’s youngest player to debut in the FA Cup during the win over Accrington Stanley. His progress has accelerated since, with the former Chelsea academy player now receiving regular first-team opportunities on Merseyside.
Interest has followed that rise. Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig monitored the winger during the summer, but Liverpool did not entertain a departure before the 2026-27 season. Arsenal have also been linked with scouting the attacker as they assess options in forward areas.
After Liverpool’s comeback win at Brentford, Ngumoha made clear that contract and transfer matters are being dealt with by his representatives. He said he prefers to concentrate on his performances, adding that playing for the club and maintaining his form are his priorities.
The competition for attacking places has not altered his approach. Ngumoha said he carries the same mindset whether selected from the start or introduced from the bench, recognising that Liverpool’s depth means opportunities must be earned. He described the internal battle as constructive, stressing that every player must be ready to help the side rather than become frustrated by limited minutes.
A new role on the right flank
Mohamed Salah’s exit and the arrivals of Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz have contributed to Ngumoha’s positional adjustment. Previously associated with the left side, he has increasingly operated from the right and believes the change is adding another dimension to his game.
He said he no longer has a preferred wing, having begun to settle on the right. The role, he feels, can make him harder for opponents to read, and he has worked on the adaptation in training.
Iraola has asked the youngster to attack defenders in one-against-one situations, provide a threat in the final third and contribute defensively when Liverpool are out of possession. Ngumoha said he has enjoyed the manager’s demands and the chance to improve within them.
His recent England Nations League call-up under Thomas Tuchel also helped his education on the right. Ngumoha played in that position while away with the national squad and said advice from Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka had been particularly useful.
With Liverpool facing a demanding domestic and European programme, Ngumoha’s ability to cover either wing offers Iraola another option during rotation. His immediate objective is to keep developing at Anfield and turn his growing number of opportunities into further first-team influence.
