Italy Beat Türkiye 3-1 to Boost Nations League Group A1 Hopes
Italy responded decisively to a second-half scare in Bologna, beating Türkiye 3-1 at the Renato Dall’Ara to strengthen their position in Nations League Group A1. Gianluca Scamacca opened the scoring before Aral Simsir briefly brought Vincenzo Montella’s visitors level, but Riccardo Calafiori and Francesco Pio Esposito ensured the Azzurri collected a significant home win.
Italy find answers after Türkiye’s aggressive opening
Roberto Mancini’s side had to withstand an assertive start from Türkiye, who made the contest uncomfortable before Italy established greater control. The breakthrough arrived in the 26th minute, with Scamacca finishing a flowing move involving Antonio Vergara and Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
The Atalanta striker struck a half-volley that hit the underside of the crossbar on its way in, giving Italy the lead their growing command of the match deserved.
Türkiye levelled shortly after the interval when Simsir produced an unexpected equaliser, threatening to change the complexion of the evening. Italy’s response, however, was immediate and composed. Calafiori restored the advantage with a header, before Esposito converted from close range late on to settle the result.

Scamacca places the result above his goal
Scamacca stressed that the collective outcome mattered more than his own contribution after scoring the opener. He said he was delighted chiefly because the win had been essential, recognising that Türkiye’s intensity had made the fixture difficult.
“I am very happy, above all for the result rather than the goal, because it was important that we won,” Scamacca said. “We knew Türkiye would not make it easy because they are aggressive, but we played very well.”
The forward also underlined his readiness to contribute whenever selected, adding that his priority is to give everything for the national side.
Esposito joins Meazza in Italy’s record books
Esposito’s late finish carried added historical significance. The young forward has now scored seven Italy goals before turning 21, becoming only the second player to achieve that mark for the national team.
Giuseppe Meazza was the first, reaching the same total in January 1931. Esposito’s contribution, combined with Scamacca’s opener, offered further encouragement for Italy’s evolving attacking group after they recovered well from Türkiye’s equaliser.
