Isle O’ Hags Guide: The Hub That Connects Banjo-Tooie’s Worlds

Banjo-Tooie’s Isle O’ Hags functions as the game’s big connective overworld: it links the different worlds you’ll be visiting, with Spiral Mountain acting as the early introduction and also serving as a callback to Banjo-Kazzoie. The isle sits at the center of the eight main regions, and while you may occasionally run into Klungo during exploration, most wandering is relatively safe compared to the inside-the-world gauntlets.

Release and platform tracker

This guide content references multiple versions, including a Nintendo 64 release context, a Switch reference (under the same “Nintendo 64/Switch Version” heading), and an Xbox Live Arcade variant (under “Xbox Live Arcade Version”). The Xbox version includes a save-file requirement tied to Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, plus a cheat option in Banjo-Kazooie that can remove an ice wall.

Item/Feature Where it’s obtained Version-specific requirement
Ice Key (from the Jinjo Village Game Pak) Jinjo Village cave near the lower Jinjo Houses, from the third of three Game Paks Xbox Live Arcade: requires a Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts save file on hard drive; the ice wall can be removed via a cheat in Banjo-Kazooie
Dragon Kazooie form (via Humba Wumba’s Wigwam) Ice Key → open a secret “ice safe” in Hailfire Peaks → Mega-Glowbo to Wumba in Pine Grove magic pool Requires Ice Key, Mega Glowbo, and Kazooie’s Talon Torpedo move (no additional platform restriction stated beyond Ice Key access)

Task Search

Use the isle’s structure as your navigation backbone. Seven Silos provide fast-travel between areas inside Isle O’ Hags, and the network also includes train stations for additional shortcuts. Several locations are reachable through Silo travel, with world entrances available at all of the listed spots except Jinjo Village. The last world—Cauldron Keep—can only be accessed via the Quagmire Silo.

Walkthrough Part 1: Isle O’ Hags

The Isle O’ Hags explorable space contains entrances to every world you’ll need to reach next, plus a route back into the Spiral Mountain tutorial area. It’s the main hub for progressing through the campaign, and you’ll use it constantly for travel between regions.

  • Spiral Mountain
  • Mayahem Temple
  • Glitter Gulch Mine
  • Witchyworld
  • Jolly Roger’s Lagoon
  • Terrydactyland
  • Grunty Industries
  • Hailfire Peaks
  • Cloud Cuckooland
  • Cauldron Keep

Before you push deeper into the isle, it’s worth stopping by Bottles’ mole hills. They’re designed to teach movement and camera handling basics so you’re comfortable with the controls before the game starts asking for precise egg-based combat and traversal. From there, explore to learn how to fire eggs, use attacks, and understand Wonder-Wing invulnerability. You can also top off ammo and feathers while you’re here.

Jinjo Village

Jinjo Village used to host dozens of bird-like Jinjos. Each color variety has its own house, and whenever you find and rescue a Jinjo, it shows up in its matching home. Grey Jinjos are no longer present in the world, and the Grey house has been fully destroyed.

Rescuing Jinjos by color restores more than just the village atmosphere: once you save every Jinjo of a given color, you earn Jiggies as a reward. The guide notes the range as “one for the white Jinjos” and “9 for the black ones,” implying the full-color set requirements for each house.

You can also locate music notes that connect to the village’s puzzles and progression. The guide specifically calls out a set of notes perched on top of the red Jinjo house—easy to miss. To reach them, backwards flip onto the door frame, jump back up, then use Grip Grap (once you’ve unlocked it) to hook the ledge and pull yourself onto the roofline.

When you enter any Jinjo home, you’re summoned by the King. Make your way up the slope to reach his golden palace. The guide warns that it won’t look quite as glorious in the near future.

Before heading inside, approach the silver Silo to unlock a fast-travel shortcut.

King Jingaling’s Throne Room

King Jingaling explains his situation—Jinjos disappearing—and gives you a Jiggy to get started.

He then asks you to locate Jiggywiggy. After a brief cutscene that checks in with your arch nemesis and her allies, you pick the quest back up immediately.

Bottles’ House

Enter Bottles’ House to meet his family. Speak with his wife, then head to the adjacent room on the left to find Goggles, Bottles’ son, who is shown with a Jet Force Gemini poster.

Goggles provides a new power-up: the Amaze-O-Gaze Glasses, which let you zoom in and out while in first-person view.

In the next room, Speccy—Bottles’ other son—talks about a secret tunnel that exits the village. Use that tunnel to reach Wooded Hollow.

Wooded Hollow

Wooded Hollow is your next stop, and it includes Jiggywiggy’s Temple along with multiple enemies and other hazards.

First, activate the Silo here to establish a second fast-travel point. With that in place, you can travel between the two areas linked by those points.

Then head toward the large temple. Talk to the doorman; since you have a Jiggy, you’re allowed inside.

Jiggywiggy’s Temple

Speak with Jiggywiggy. You’ll be asked to complete a challenge by interacting with a golden painting on the wall to the right. Stand directly in front of the artwork and press B.

The challenge is a timed jigsaw puzzle. Grab puzzle pieces and place them into the correct slots within the allotted time limit. Once you complete the moving image of the treasure chamber, a cutscene plays showing a new entrance has been opened outside.

Return to Jiggywiggy’s Temple after you’ve collected enough Jiggies to unlock the next world. There are 90 Jiggies across the entire game for full completion, but only 70 are required to open the game’s final challenge.

Banjo-Tooie Jiggywiggy’s Challenges

Continue using Jiggywiggy’s Temple as your checkpoint for progression whenever the required number of Jiggies has been met.

Cliff Top Train Station

Most fast-travel on Isle O’ Hags runs through the seven Silos, but Cliff Top has something different: a train station located outside of any single world. Once you’ve pressed the train button on the ledge in Cliff Top and completed the train-related Jiggy quest in Glitter Gulch Mine, you can summon Chuffy from this location and travel to other train stations.

The guide also mentions a quest tied to the Mumbo Pad and nearby Skull, pointing readers to the Terryland Jiggies section for details.

All Isle O’ Hags Collectibles

As you move further into the overall quest, you’ll unlock access to more objectives across Isle O’ Hags. If you’re early and don’t yet have the required moves, the guide recommends prioritizing the main quest first rather than attempting to brute-force all collectibles at once.

Isle O’ Hags Cheato Page

If you haven’t collected it yet, there’s a hidden Cheato Page in the Spiral Mountain portion of Isle O’ Hags. It sits on a ledge across from the Digger Tunnel. Use the Shockspring Pad to hop into the cave and grab the prize.

All Isle O’ Hags Jinjos

1. Jinjo Under the Waterfall

In Spiral Mountain, use Talon Torpedo to break the boulder under the waterfall and uncover a Jinjo. The guide notes you can only get this after learning Talon Torpedo in Jolly Roger’s Lagoon.

2. Jinjo in the Wooded Hollow Tunnel

Follow the Digger’s tracks into the tunnel, passing Master Jiggywiggy’s Temple in Wooded Hollow. A Jinjo waits at the end of the tunnel.

3. Jinjo Under the Isle O’ Hags Plateau Boulder

As you climb the wooden ramps into the Plateau area, use Bill Drill on the boulder in front of the Glitter Gulch Mine entrance to reveal another Jinjo. Bill Drill is learned in Glitter Gulch Mine.

4. Wasteland Jinjo Hanging With a Minjo

In Wasteland, around a bend to the left, you’ll notice two figures that appear similar. The left one is the Jinjo; the other one is a Minjo.

5. Jinjo Near the Hailfire Peaks Building on Cliff Top

On Cliff Top, find a Jinjo in a wall alcove near the entrance to Jolly Roger’s Lagoon. Push the button down the stairs to bridge the gap to the entrance of Hailfire Peaks.

Behind the Hailfire Peaks building, you’ll find the pair of Claw Clamber Boots needed to reach the Jinjo. You learn the Claw Clamber ability in Grunty Industries.

Isle O’ Hags Honeycomb

Grab one Honeycomb Piece in the Plateau area of Isle O’ Hags. It’s located underneath Honey B’s Hive, in the rear right-side corner.

Isle O’ Hags Moves

Fast Swim

Near Banjo’s house in Spiral Mountain, there’s a boulder. Use Bill Drill on it to uncover a goldfish that’s described as being “soon-to-be-dried out.”

Bring that fish to the moat around Spiral Mountain, and he’ll teach you how to swim faster.

Amaze-O-Gaze Glasses

You can pick up the zooming glasses from Bottle’s son inside their house. The guide notes they’re always on Banjo’s eyes, meaning you simply switch to first-person mode and zoom in and out when you need to.

Fire Eggs

You learn the Fire Eggs move from Jamjars in the Plateau area of the Isle O’ Hags. These eggs are essential for lighting your way in several underground mines in Glitter Gulch Mine.

Grenade Eggs

Jamjars teaches Grenade Eggs if you visit him in Pine Grove to the right of the entrance to Witchyworld.

The guide emphasizes that, besides being necessary for Witchyworld, these eggs will likely become your preferred weapon for much of the rest of the game.

Ice Eggs

Visit Jamjars’ Hatch in Cliff Top before going into Jolly Roger’s Lagoon. After learning Ice Eggs, you’ll be able to freeze the legs of the massive octopus guardians that protect various underwater tunnels and caves.

Clockwork Kazooie Eggs

If you aren’t careful, you may accidentally discover Jamjars’ Hatch in Wasteland. The guide says that’s fine—because Clockwork Kazooie Eggs are needed if you aim to collect all items.

These eggs hatch a mechanized version of your favorite Breegull, and you get 20 seconds to guide it wherever you want. Detonate it whenever you choose, making it useful for collecting items that are otherwise out of reach.

Homing Eggs

Bring a Blue Special Egg to Heggy’s Hen House in Wooded Hollow. Heggy hatches it for you, and inside is the Homing Eggs ability. The guide describes this as giving eggs an AI-like behavior: they curve toward the enemy when your aim isn’t perfectly aligned.

Breegull Bash

Give Heggy the pink Special Egg to hatch in her house to learn Breegull Bash. The guide downplays its combat strength, but calls out the entertainment value of watching Banjo slam Kazooie face-first into the ground.

All Isle O’ Hags Jiggies

King Jingaling in Jinjo Village hands over your first Jiggy as motivation for discovering and returning his Jinjo townsfolk. He also provides more Jiggies whenever you meet the requirements listed below. The guide clarifies that you don’t need to return to Jinjo Village to receive them—Jiggies are automatically granted once you reach the set number of Jinjos for each family.

Return all White Jinjos (1)

Only one White Jinjo exists. Return it to have it appear in its home as the rarest Jinjo variety.

Return All Orange Jinjos (2)

To receive this Jiggy, you must locate every Orange Jinjo in the game (two total).

Return All Yellow Jinjos (3)

Save all three Yellow Jinjos for this reward.

Return All Brown Jinjos (4)

Find and rescue all four Brown Jinjos to unlock this Jiggy.

Return All Green Jinjos (5)

Rescue five Green Jinjos hidden across the worlds to earn this Jiggy.

Return All Red Jinjos (6)

Find six Red Jinjos throughout Banjo-Tooie’s levels to unlock this Jiggy.

Return All Blue Jinjos (7)

Collect all seven Blue Jinjos, randomly placed across the game’s worlds.

Return All Purple Jinjos (8)

There are eight Purple Jinjos hidden during the quest. Rescue them all for this Jiggy.

Return All Black Jinjos (9)

There are nine Black Jinjos, described as the least rare color group. Save them for what the guide expects is likely the last Spiral Mountain-related Jiggy.

Mumbo Jumbo’s Skull: Heal

Healing requires Mumbo’s powers in the Cliff Tops area of Isle O’ Hags. The Glowbo Mumbo asks for can be found from the roof of the Hailfire Peaks entrance. The guide adds that you can press the button down the stairs to connect the gap when approaching the area.

Before attempting the healing, the guide lists prerequisites: 1) Grip Grab across the ledge and press the Train Button, and 2) bring Chuffy along with the sick dinosaur from Terrydactyland back to Cliff Tops. After those steps, Mumbo can heal the dinosaur.

The Three Hidden Game Paks

Three bouncing Nintendo 64 cartridges are hidden around Isle O’ Hags—two in Spiral Mountain and one near Jinjo Village. The guide provides the pickup route for each.

Spiral Mountain Game Pak 1

In Spiral Mountain, once you’ve mastered Grenade Eggs, aim at the screen covering the cave above the tree stumps. Blast it apart using a Grenade Egg.

Head up Spiral Mountain to launch yourself from the Flight Pad, then land inside the cave where the Game Pak is hopping around.

Catch the Banjo-Kazooie cartridge and smash it to reveal a Pink Special Egg inside. Heggy will hatch the egg if you ask nicely; the guide directs readers to the Heggy’s Hen House section for more details.

Spiral Mountain Game Pak 2

This second Game Pak is also in Spiral Mountain, but it’s less obvious. Use the Fly Pad on the top of Spiral Mountain to soar over the waterfall and enter the cave where the water flows.

The route leads to an area titled “Behind the Waterfall.” Follow the ledge to the smaller waterfall at the rear of the cave, then Grip Grab the ledge to climb behind the second waterfall.

From there, follow the tunnel that loops around toward the Game Pak inside a cage. Smash the cartridge to uncover its secret.

Inside is a Blue Special Egg. Return to Heggy’s Hen House so she can hatch it as well; the guide points to the same follow-up section for what you get.

Jinjo Village Game Pak

The final Game Pak is described as the most important because it contains the Ice Key. Head to the Jinjo Village area of Isle O’ Hags, then look for the sandy section near the lower Jinjo Houses.

Grip Grab the ledge that wraps around the left side of the green rocks and enter the cave. At the far end, the third of three Game Paks appears, labeled “BK,” hopping away. Roll into it to smash it and collect the Ice Key.

For instructions on using the Ice Key, the guide points to the next secret.

Humba Wumba’s Wigwam: Dragon Kazooie Form

Some screenshots of Banjo-Tooie show a green Kazooie, and this section explains how to make it happen. The guide states that multiple requirements must be met and that you need to unlock several worlds first.

To trigger the transformation, you need: the Ice Key, the Mega Glowbo, and Kazooie’s Talon Torpedo move.

First, obtain the Ice Key from the Game Pak in Jinjo Village.

Nintendo 64/Switch Version: Go to Jinjo Village in Isle O’ Hags. Head to the sandy area near the lower Jinjo Houses, Grip Grab the ledge winding around the left side of the green rocks, and enter the cave. At the end, you’ll find the third Game Pak of three.

Xbox Live Arcade Version: In the Xbox version, players must have a Banjo-Kazooie or Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts save file on their hard drive. In Banjo-Kazooie, go to Freezeezy Peak and enter Wozza’s walrus cave. The ice wall that previously blocked access to the key is gone now. Backflip up to the ledge, grab the Ice Key, then switch back to Banjo-Tooie and check the Stop N Swop menu on the View Totals screen to confirm you’ve received the Ice Key.

The guide also notes an additional cheat option in the Xbox version of Banjo-Kazooie: entering the cheat “NOW YOU CAN SEE A NICE ICE KEY WHICH YOU CAN HAVE FOR FREE” removes the ice wall.

Next, use Talon Torpedo on the boulder in the Waterfall Cavern side area of Glitter Gulch Mine. Behind that boulder is a hidden entrance to Hailfire Peaks, where a large “ice safe” is located. Open the safe with the Ice Key to obtain the Mega-Glowbo.

Finally, bring the Mega-Glowbo to Wumba in the Pine Grove area of Isle O’ Hags and jump into the magic pool.

At first, nothing may seem to change, but once Kazooie turns around you’ll see the transformation—she becomes a dragon and gains flame-throwing abilities. The guide jokes that you may not need Fire Eggs anymore.

If you ever decide you don’t want Kazooie to remain a dragon, simply jump back into the magic pool in Pine Grove and Kazooie returns to her normal form. The guide adds that every move works in either shape.

Heggy’s Three Mysterious Eggs

Three mysterious eggs appear in Heggy’s Hen House, accessible from the Isle O’ Hags / Jinjo Village main area by going down the slope.

Heggy—described as a giant chicken—offers to hatch two eggs found by Banjo-Kazooie on their own. The first egg that appears in the hen house must be hatched by Kazooie herself, which requires learning the Hatch Move in Terrydactyland.

The Yellow Egg is located on the second floor of the hen house. As soon as Kazooie has learned Hatch, the guide instructs using the Split-Up Pad to separate the heroes, then crouch and use C-Left to have Kazooie hatch the egg. The reward is a Jinjo to use as a multiplayer character.

The Pink Egg is inside Game Pak #1 in the Spiral Mountain hub. Ask Heggy to hatch it.

Hatching the Pink Egg unlocks an attack move: Breegull Bash. This secret attack triggers when you hit B twice, and the guide describes it as Banjo slamming enemies with Kazooie as the most powerful weapon yet.

The Blue Egg is inside Game Pak #2 in the Spiral Mountain hub. Talk to Heggy to have her hatch it and you’ll unlock the HOMING code. This is an optional attack upgrade; the guide says to enter it in Mayahem Temple to obtain Homing Eggs.

Up Next: Mayahem Temple

The guide’s next destination after completing these Isle O’ Hags-related steps is Mayahem Temple.
