Inter Milan Rally From Two Down to Beat Napoli 3-2 at San Siro
Inter Milan preserved their perfect Serie A start with a remarkable 3-2 comeback against Napoli at San Siro, overturning a two-goal second-half deficit through Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
After a scoreless first half, Napoli appeared to have seized control of the Matchday 3 contest. Matteo Politano broke the deadlock in the 50th minute before Rasmus Hojlund doubled the visitors’ advantage three minutes later.
Inter responded with urgency under Cristian Chivu. Lautaro began the recovery before Thuram brought the score level, and the Argentine forward completed the turnaround with the decisive goal in the 91st minute.
The result leaves Inter with maximum points from their first three league matches and maintains their 100 per cent domestic record. It also provided an early statement of resilience against a Napoli side regarded as a direct challenger at the top of the division.
Jones pleased with Inter response
Jones praised the squad’s resolve after a difficult afternoon in which Inter had to recover from Napoli’s rapid double strike.
“I’m absolutely over the moon. I am so happy to be part of a team and a club like this,” Jones said. “It was obviously a hard game, but the lads stuck to the game plan.”
The English midfielder also highlighted the contribution of the San Siro crowd during the comeback.
“The fans were great throughout the whole match, and that is why we won,” he added.
Midfield competition remains intense
Jones said he understands that his arrival does not guarantee a regular starting role in Chivu’s midfield, with places to be earned in an established squad.
“Of course, I have joined a great team, so it is not going to be an easy ride,” he said. “I cannot just come here and expect to play every game; I have to earn my place as well.”
He added that he intends to make every appearance count. “Every chance I get to play, I want to give it my all. The most important thing is that I go out there, work hard, and show both the fans and my teammates that I truly want to be here.”
Inter will now aim to take the momentum from their late win over Napoli into their next domestic fixtures and European commitments.
