G.I. Joe Meets Tomb Raider in a New Skybound Comic Crossover
2026 is shaping up to be a standout year for comic-book crossovers, and it’s not slowing down. After recent reveals involving Batman/Superman/Weird Al: World’s Weirdest and Judge Dredd/Biker Mice From Mars, the next unlikely pairing is here: G.I. Joe and Tomb Raider.

While the full crossover is scheduled to roll out next year, the story is already in motion. Lara Croft has made a surprise appearance in the pages of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330, setting up the larger event that follows.
The bigger slate is a five-issue limited series titled G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider. It’s set to begin in October 2026, with Issue #1 arriving on October 7.
To get fans ready, the publisher has shared an early look at G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider #1 through a preview gallery.

The limited series is written by Kyle Higgins, known for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, with art by Elena Casagrande, who previously worked on Black Widow. Alex Guimarães handles coloring (Invaders), and Pat Brosseau is on lettering, credited for G.I Joe: A Real American Hero.
Story-wise, the series springs directly from the events of issue #330. Lara Croft teams up with Shipwreck and a group of Joes as they sprint toward Cobra Island in pursuit of a treasure that’s been lost for a long time. Of course, they’re not the only ones interested—The Baroness and Destro are also hunting the same prize, aiming to take it for themselves.
In a statement, Higgins leaned into the premise: “Tomb Raider meets G.I. JOE. Lost artifact, a Destro plot, and a joint infiltration mission to Cobra Island– the appeal of a story like this should be obvious.” He added that he was excited to work across both brands, saying he jumped at the chance when approached about building an adventure for each. Higgins also teased that the series will “take some really fun swings” with both properties, with plenty of “deep cuts” for long-time G.I. JOE fans.
Casagrande shared her own excitement about drawing Croft, describing the character as one of the biggest myths in her life. She said it will be “epic” to see Lara in action alongside the G.I. JOE team, working through one of Croft’s signature mysteries on Cobra Island, and she’s looking forward to revealing more pages as the series continues.
And if the comic crossover wasn’t enough, Hasbro is also expanding its G.I. Joe Classified action figure lineup with a new Lara Croft figure. A closer look at the Tomb Raider figure is being shown alongside the comic’s announcement.
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider #1 is scheduled for release on October 7, and copies will be available to preorder at local comic shops.
