Final Fantasy 7 Trilogy Closer Than Ever: Final Installment Set for 2027
Final Fantasy fans are heading into a packed stretch, with Square Enix preparing multiple entries across the franchise’s next wave of releases. The HD-2D project Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled to launch in October 2026, arriving before the conclusion of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy. That trilogy wraps with Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is set to debut next year. On top of that, January 2027 is shaping up to be a key month for Final Fantasy 7 players.
Reported information about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s downloadable content plans points to a release that kicks off the “end” rather than being the final landing point. The game is described as the most substantial entry in the remake trilogy, a notable claim given just how large the open-world direction of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth already is. If you’re looking to keep absorbing the story beyond the main game, there’s also a separate stop on the calendar in January 2027.
Separately, Square Enix has been weighing the possibility of additional Final Fantasy remakes down the road, building on the momentum from its more recent remake projects.

Which one doesn’t belong?
Authored by Kazushige Nojima, Final Fantasy 7: Dear Destiny continues the story after Traces of Two Pasts. The novel focuses on the life stories of Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockhart, charting their paths leading into the core events of Final Fantasy 7. It also includes a bonus short story that covers Cloud’s period as a Shinra soldier. By covering these character threads, the book is intended to set the tone for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth, and Revelation, and it’s positioned as essential reading for major fans of the franchise.
More specifically, the novel follows Tifa as she works to rebuild her life at Seventh Heaven while trying to keep ahead of the Turks’ investigation into Avalanche. In parallel, it follows Aerith as she supports herself by selling flowers in Midgar, while searching for someone important to her. The separate journeys eventually begin to steer both characters toward the events that shape the wider Final Fantasy 7 universe. And for players, there’s still a faint presence of Sephiroth—“the one-winged angel”—lurking in the background.

It’s also believed that Traces of Two Pasts and Dear Destiny represent only part of a broader set of novels set within the Final Fantasy 7 universe, with more entries planned for later releases. For now, though, Final Fantasy 7: Dear Destiny appears designed as a direct bridge between FF7 Rebirth and Revelation. With the final installment still months away, the novel is expected to offer new insight into two of Final Fantasy 7’s most beloved characters, while also expanding the overall FF7 Remake universe ahead of its biggest chapter yet.
