David Alaba Set to Join Udinese on Short-Term Free Transfer
David Alaba is closing in on a free transfer to Udinese after completing medical examinations in Rome, with the 34-year-old Austria international expected to travel to Udine to finalise the short-term deal.
Medical clearance moves Udinese deal forward
Alaba arrived in the Italian capital on Thursday morning and underwent the required checks at Villa Stuart, the sports medicine clinic regularly used by leading Italian clubs. The examinations raised no concerns, leaving the defender free to continue north and complete the remaining paperwork.
- Alaba has been unattached since his Real Madrid contract ended on 30 June.
- He is expected to sign a short-term contract once he reaches Udine.
- After the agreement is registered, he will join the Udinese squad.
- The move would give him his first opportunity to play in Serie A.

Alaba chooses Serie A after interest from several leagues
Alaba’s status as a free agent had drawn attention from a number of clubs in Europe and beyond. Serie A sides were among those monitoring his situation, while Union Berlin were also linked with the former Bayern Munich and Real Madrid player.
Options outside Europe were available too, with Club America, Inter Miami and Al-Sadd all reported to have shown interest. Alaba has instead chosen Udinese, where his record in major competitions will bring considerable pedigree to the squad.
