Complete Step-by-Step Shangri-La Easter Egg Guide for Black Ops Zombies

Shangri-La is one of the most infamous maps in Call of Duty Zombies, and for good reason: finishing its Easter egg is a serious challenge. Whether you’re attempting it solo or coordinating with a full squad of four, this is one run that rewards patience and tight teamwork. Below is a complete, step-by-step guide to the Shangri-La Easter egg for Black Ops and Black Ops 3 Zombies, covering the full process from power-up to the final objectives.

Shangri-La Easter egg on PC Can be played solo You can download “BO1-Full-Solo-Mods” to run the Easter egg completely by yourself.

Before you jump into the jungle, there’s a helpful reminder of how Zombies storytelling ties other eggs together: in Call of the Dead, famous celebrities assist Ultimis to complete its Easter egg, secure the Golden Rod, and escape the frozen nightmare.

The Shangri-La Easter egg itself is built for four players—unless you’re on PC, where you can use the “BO1-Full-Solo-Mods” download to complete the Easter egg solo.

  7. Plug holes in the water tunnel with a Spiked Claymore during Eclipse Mode.
  8. Melee the 12 symbols and destroy a tent in Eclipse Mode.
  9. Solve the wheels puzzle in the mud room in Eclipse Mode.
  10. Pack-a-Punch the 31-79 JGb215.
  11. Find the 4 correct gongs to charge the Crystal Balls and obtain Dynamite in Eclipse Mode.
  12. Shrink the Focusing Stone.
  13. Give Brock and Gary the Dynamite in Eclipse Mode.
  14. Obtain the Focusing Stone.

Step #1: Turn on the Power

First, you’ll need power online. The route is straightforward: take the path to the left or right of spawn, then follow it downward into the large underground factory area. Pull two power switches—once both are activated, power returns to the map. From there, you can continue to the next step, unlock Perks, and access Pack-a-Punch.

Step #2: Enter the Eclipse

With power restored, go back to spawn. In the central region where Quick Revive is located, you’ll find four wall dials. In co-op, all 4 players must interact with the dials displayed above. If you’re running the modded solo version on PC, you’ll instead need to interact with all four dials within about 10 seconds.

If you do it correctly, the map shifts into the “eclipsed” version of Shangri-La. Learning this transition is critical because you’ll repeat Eclipse Mode multiple times during the Easter egg.

Step #3: Match the Tiles in the Eclipse

Once you’re in Eclipse Mode, head right to the room (when facing Pack-a-Punch). Look for a statue just to the left of the MPL/Pharo wall purchase area. There’s a wall button you can interact with. After you press it, 12 tiles will appear on this side, and another set of 12 will spawn on the opposite side of the map.

The target is to have both players stand on the same symbol at the same time. You can verify which symbol you’re standing on by stepping onto a tile, but only one player can check at once. If both players land on mismatched symbols, Eclipse Mode ends immediately and you’ll have to attempt the step again. Eclipse Mode will also time out if you move too slowly, so keep things moving.

Solo players: this step should automatically complete after you interact with the starting button.

Step #4: Activate the Water Slide in the Eclipse

Return to Eclipse Mode. Then send three players to the left side of the map (again, when facing Pack-a-Punch). There’s a water slide that one player can enter and spam the interact button on, but that player must do it while the other two players stand at the bottom of the slide on the metal grates. When the objective is satisfied, Eclipse Mode ends right away.

Solo players: just go down the slide and spam interact—there’s no requirement for a second player waiting below.

Step #5: Grab the 31-79 JGb215 and Shrink the Crystal Ball

Now you’ll need to spin the Mystery Box until you obtain the 31-79 JGb215, Shangri-La’s wonder weapon. It’s commonly described as the shrink ray or “baby gun.” Once you have it, enter Eclipse Mode and you’ll see a meteor crash into the water slide.

Above the water slide is a crystal ball that can be shot down using an explosive weapon (Ray Gun). When it drops, use the 31-79 JGb215 to shoot it and shrink it, then melee it so it falls onto the water slide. Follow the result and stand on the geyser so it lands in the spawn area.

Step #6: Use a Napalm Zombie to Ignite the Tunnels

This step requires a Napalm Zombie, which means you’ll need to progress until one spawns. Don’t get too close—Napalm Zombies explode—so keep your distance while luring it in. Once you have a Napalm Zombie, activate Eclipse Mode.

Bring the Napalm Zombie into the tunnel on the right (when facing Pack-a-Punch), where a red wheel is located. After interacting with it multiple times, a gas leak will appear at a pipe down the hallway. As the Napalm Zombie gets near it, the pipe will ignite. Keep leading the Napalm Zombie toward the power room, because there are 3 additional gas leaks to set on fire.

When all four flames are active, you can go back to the tunnel with the red wheel to find a lever you can pull. Pulling it returns you to the normal map and ends Eclipse Mode.

Step #7: Plug Holes With Spiked Claymores

In the power room, you can buy Spiked Claymores (Trip Mines in BO3) from the wall. Once you’ve got them, go into Eclipse Mode and immediately sprint to the tunnel to the left of Pack-a-Punch by the waterfall. There are four holes in that tunnel wall that you’ll need to cover using the Spiked Claymore. When a zombie approaches, the equipment detonates and fills the openings.

After all four holes are patched, move to the central rock near the waterfall and interact with the brick wall to trigger a button. This spawns a new waterfall, and once the sequence finishes, Eclipse Mode ends as well.

Step #8: Melee the 12 Symbols & Destroy the Tent in Eclipse Mode

Back in Eclipse Mode, you’ll find 12 wall tiles that you can melee to reveal blue symbols. The specific symbols don’t matter, and you can complete them in any order as long as you’re still in Eclipse Mode. Follow the locations below and make sure you’re stabbing the correct tiles:

  • 5 in the spawn room
  • 1 in the power room
  • 2 by the mine cart
  • 2 by the bridge
  • 2 by the waterfall tunnel

Once all 12 symbols are visible, quickly (still in Eclipse Mode) return to the mine cart area. Look to the right between the warning signs and throw a grenade at a tent to destroy it. This should end Eclipse Mode.

Step #9: Solve the Wheels Puzzle

Enter Eclipse Mode again and head to the mud room. You’ll see four circular dials on the walls. Each dial needs to be interacted with to display a specific symbol—described in the guide as images earlier, then explained here:

  • The first dial, on the left when you enter the room, should show 4 vertical dots at the top.
  • The second dial, directly across from the first, should show 3 vertical dots at the top.
  • Go to the immediate right for the third dial, and set the top symbol to resemble a “C,” a line, and a dot (C|.).
  • The fourth dial is opposite the third. Set it to a single-dot symbol.
  • Completing these in the listed order ends Eclipse Mode and starts the next step.

Step #10: Upgrade the 31-79 JGb215

This is a small objective, but it’s essential: you must Pack-a-Punch the 31-79 JGb215 if you haven’t done it already. You’ll need all players standing on a set of pressure plates so the statues stop spinning. Then you can climb the stairs to Pack-a-Punch in the spawn area.

The pressure plates are located in these spots:

  • Opposite Quick Revive in Spawn
  • In the tunnel toward the waterslide
  • Between the power switches
  • Across the rope bridge

The next two steps must be performed during the same Eclipse Mode session.

Step #11: Solve the Gong Puzzle & Charge the Crystal Balls to Get the Dynamite

Re-enter Eclipse Mode. Your job now is to locate 4 correct gongs scattered across the map. You’ll know you’ve found a correct one by meleeing it and checking the crystal orb above spawn—if it turns red, then that gong is incorrect. If it turns red, keep hitting gongs until you find the 4 that do not produce a red light, then hit all four back-to-back. These gongs can be found around spawn, in the mine cart area, and near the bridge.

After you successfully hit all four, the crystal balls will charge with an orange glow. You can now use the upgraded 31-79 JGb215 (The Fractalizer) to shoot the crystal ball by the geyser in the mine cart area. A beam of light will sweep across the crystal balls; you then need to watch the crystal ball you shot for dynamite and grab it before it hits the ground.

Step #12: Shrink the Meteor and Give Brock & Gary the Dynamite

Still in Eclipse Mode, you need to shoot the upgraded 31-79 JGb215 at the crystal ball above the Olympia wall purchase area. Next, quickly trigger Pack-a-Punch and run up to the temple stairs. From there, interact with the brick wall to hand the dynamite to Brock and Gary.

Once you return to the normal version of Shangri-La, go up the temple stairs and pick up the Focusing Stone located behind that brick wall. The player who takes the Focusing Stone receives all available Perks across the map.

For Black Ops 1, the Shangri-La Easter egg is required to complete the Moon Easter egg. There’s also a radio near the Pack-a-Punch stairs that can be interacted with to restart the Easter egg, allowing other players to secure all Perks as well.
