Cole Palmer Extends Chelsea Stay with Contract Through 2034
Cole Palmer has committed his long-term future to Chelsea by signing a new contract running until 2034, adding another year to the agreement he reached with the club in August 2024.
What changed for Chelsea
The 24-year-old England forward had already extended his Chelsea deal by two years, taking him to 2033, but the latest agreement secures an additional season at Stamford Bridge.
Palmer said Chelsea had given him confidence in its direction after conversations with the owners, sporting directors and head coach Xabi Alonso. He also pointed to a shared ambition within the squad, saying he wants to play a central part in the club’s pursuit of major honours.
Since arriving from Manchester City in August 2023, Palmer has produced 91 goal contributions across 138 Chelsea appearances. He has also made a positive start to the current campaign, scoring four times in seven outings.
- Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in August 2023.
- His revised contract now expires in 2034.
- He has recorded 91 goals and assists combined in 138 matches for the Blues.
Competition context
The extension continues Chelsea’s policy of tying key players to lengthy contracts into the 2030s. João Pedro and Pedro Neto have also recently agreed deals on similar long-term terms.
Palmer’s previous season was affected by an ongoing groin issue, and Chelsea have been managing his physical workload. He was not made available for the latest England internationals, a decision that drew criticism from England head coach Thomas Tuchel.
The forward also missed the World Cup, but Alonso stressed on Friday that Palmer remains committed to the national side. The Chelsea manager said the player must first be fully fit, adding that both club and country will need him once he is ready for regular minutes.
What is scheduled next
Chelsea’s immediate decision will concern Palmer’s fitness management after his strong opening to the season. The club will look to maintain his availability while avoiding a recurrence of the groin trouble that disrupted his previous campaign.
For England, Palmer’s next involvement will depend on reaching full fitness. Alonso’s position is that the forward should return to international consideration when his condition allows him to play without restriction.
