Bayern Munich Await Harry Kane Signature on Proposed 2029 Extension
Bayern Munich have received encouraging signals in their efforts to extend Harry Kane’s stay, although sporting director Christoph Freund has stressed that no agreement is complete until the England captain signs a new contract. Reports this week suggested Kane had reached a broad understanding on terms that would keep him in Munich until 2029.
Kane extension remains a Bayern priority
Kane joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 and has rapidly become central to the club’s attack. The 33-year-old has scored 152 goals across 154 appearances for the Bavarian side, winning the Bundesliga Golden Boot in both of his seasons while contributing to two league championships and last season’s DFB-Pokal triumph.
Freund said negotiations were continuing positively, while making clear that the proposed extension had not yet been formally completed.
“Until a contract is signed, different possibilities always exist,” Freund said. “There is no update to announce, but discussions are going well. We are optimistic, the club wants to extend him, and Harry is very happy here.”
- Kane arrived from Tottenham in 2023.
- He has recorded 152 goals in 154 Bayern matches.
- The England forward has won the Bundesliga scoring award in each season at the club.
- German reports have indicated a potential new deal running to 2029.
England brace adds to Kane’s momentum
Kane returned from the international break after marking his record-equalling 125th England appearance with two goals in a 3-0 win over Czechia on Tuesday. His form for both club and country has put him among the leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London later this month.
Bayern team-mate Michael Olise is also on the shortlist, but head coach Vincent Kompany was unwilling to dwell on the individual prize before Saturday’s Bundesliga meeting with Augsburg.
Kompany said the award decision was already beyond his influence and insisted that Bayern’s collective targets mattered more. He added that he hoped a Bayern player would win, but said trophies for the team remained the priority, a mindset he believes Kane and Olise share.
Olise future carries no urgency
Freund also addressed speculation connecting Olise with Real Madrid, saying Bayern were comfortable with the winger’s situation. The France international is contracted until 2029, leaving the German champions under no immediate pressure to discuss a departure or new terms.
The sporting director praised Olise’s development since arriving at the club and described him as one of the world’s outstanding players. Freund said the winger was settled in Munich and that Bayern remained in regular contact with him.
Augsburg next as Bayern resume league campaign
Bayern now return to domestic competition against Augsburg on Saturday, with Kompany looking to preserve the side’s momentum. While the club continue work on the futures of Kane and Olise, their immediate focus is on adding further Bundesliga and European honours.
