Bolse Defense Satellite Explained: How Its Force Field Shapes Battles
Bolse is Andross’s secret weapon: a defense satellite that’s difficult to scan and hard to crack with attacks from larger ships. It’s also outfitted with attack fighters and a protective force field designed to stop smaller craft from slipping through. In other words, this battle is built to punish anything that relies on speed alone.
Task Search: What Changes Between Routes
The battle’s basic victory objective and overall mission structure stay the same, but the fight setup can vary depending on how you reached Bolse. If you didn’t take down Star Wolf and their crew at Fichina—or if your chosen route skips the planet entirely—you’ll run into up to four members of Team Star Wolf during this stage.
Aside from that added conflict, the mission plays out the same for everyone: you’ll take on the defense outpost in an All-Range battle, with gravitational interference coming from the satellite’s energy reactors. Bolse, much like Titania, only has one exit—so the route forward is straightforward even when the physics aren’t.
The Last Hurrah: Reactor Ring Combat Flow
Team Star Fox will start inside a ring of tower-like reactors, while Bolse Fighters and Laser Cannons open fire. Expect the battlefield to be controlled by the reactor towers and the gravitational disruption around them.
Primary Objective: Destroy Every Tower
Your core job is to destroy all the towers while dealing with unpredictable gravity pulls. Use your boost to correct your position, then aim for a tower. From there, blast the cannons that flank it, clearing the immediate threat before you commit to the reactor.
Power-ups aren’t immune to the gravity either. If you want to reliably grab drops, position yourself so the gravitational pull carries you toward them rather than away.
- Boost to adjust your approach and fly toward a reactor tower.
- Target and destroy the cannons flanking that tower.
- When the tower is exposed, fire at the top of the reactor tower to disable it.
- Lock on to enemy fighters and blast them out of the sky before moving to the next tower.
Once the cannons are taken out, switch focus to the airborne enemies and wipe them out.
Optional Boss Battle: Star Wolf
If you didn’t defeat Star Wolf and friends at Fichina—or if you skipped the planet entirely—you’ll also face up to four returning foes here. Only the members you didn’t already shoot down in the earlier battle will show up, keeping the storyline continuity intact.
To handle them, lean into rapid fire attacks that don’t rely on repeated lock-ons. Also, be ready to perform loop maneuvers whenever a damaged Wolven fighter climbs too high to be targeted.
After all airborne attackers are downed, it’s time to go after the Bolse Core. The Bolse Core won’t be vulnerable to Laser fire until every energy reactor is destroyed.
- Take out every energy reactor tower (all five towers).
- Only after the reactors are destroyed will the Bolse Core become available.
Path 1: Destroy the Bolse Core
Requirement: Blow up the Bolse Core by destroying all yellow panels.
Run attack patterns on the central structure and shoot the yellow panels mounted on its rotating tower. Use brakes to slow down during your passes, giving yourself enough time to destroy multiple panels each run.
Be aware that the more panels you destroy, the more laser fire starts targeting you. Stay ready to loop-turn to repeat your attack runs efficiently and keep the pressure on the core until the satellite is destroyed.
Mission Accomplished
With victory secured, the next step opens up the final challenge for the easy and medium routes: Venom.
Bolse Medal Rewards and Requirements
There’s no time limit on this part—so focus on thorough clearing. Shoot down every flying enemy and blow up every cannon to meet the requirements and secure the medal conditions.
