Black Ops 2 Zombies Buried: Free Arthur and Use Leroy Booze Effects
Arthur (sometimes referred to as Leroy) is the friendly “jolly giant” you can find in Black Ops 2 Zombies during Buried, the last Victis crew map. This hidden Old West town is buried underground and overrun by the undead, but Arthur can at least add some charm—and more importantly, practical assistance—that can make high-round runs feel dramatically easier.
Here’s what you need to know about how to free Arthur in Buried, plus what every effect looks like when you feed him Candy and Booze. He’s worth using regularly, especially if your goal is pushing higher rounds or just enjoying a more relaxed Zombies session.
Black Ops 2 Zombies includes special Perks with “perma” style effects that you unlock through distinct methods, and Arthur’s system is one of those secrets that can swing the game in your favor.
How to Free Arthur in Buried
After you reach the town area in Buried, make your way to the Jailhouse. Enter by going up the stairs, jumping across the gap, then dropping down into the Jailhouse interior. Arthur will be trapped inside a cell, but freeing him is straightforward.
Look for a key with a green skull symbol located to the left of Arthur’s cell door. Pick it up to unlock the cell.
Once Arthur is out, he’ll huddle in the room. On the shelf near the bed behind him, you’ll find a bottle of Booze. Give it to Arthur to make him bold enough to smash through the cell door, after which he’ll roam the map as a friendly ally.
If you shoot Arthur while he’s roaming, he will retreat back to his cell and lock the door. To get him back out, you’ll need to locate the key again and bring Arthur Booze once more. Below are the possible key spawns, followed by what Arthur can do while he’s roaming.
All Jailhouse Key Locations in Buried
- Spawn #1 is to the left of Arthur’s cell.
- Spawn #2 is behind the bank counter.
- Spawn #3 is in the back room of the General Store.
- Spawn #3 is upstairs in the saloon.
- Spawn #4 is in the courthouse.
All Booze Locations & Effects in Buried
Booze is one of Arthur’s core items. It can spawn once per round, either inside his cell or in the saloon (on different tables depending on the round). If you’d rather not rely on spawns, you can also buy Booze from the saloon’s cash register for 1,000 Points.
Feeding Arthur Booze lets him charge through objects to break them, which in turn can open up new routes around the map. For the break to work, Arthur needs to face his back toward whatever you want destroyed. While this can be useful across several spots, the fountain and the ghost girl’s mansion are highlighted as especially valuable areas.
You can also use Booze right before heading to the mansion to let Arthur charge inside—but the game-breaking part here is that this is described as a glitch that can trap Arthur inside permanently and effectively ruin him for the rest of the match. In other words: don’t try it.
All Candy Locations & Effects in Buried
Another key item for Arthur is Candy. One Candy will spawn in the candy store every round. You can also purchase an additional piece of Candy from the cash register inside the store, and then feed it to Arthur for the effects below.
- If Candy is placed next to a crawler, Arthur will hold it until you eliminate that crawler.
- If Candy is placed near the active Mystery Box, Arthur will slam it to keep it in place for a near-permanent duration.
- If Candy is placed at the Mystery Box while it’s been spun, Arthur will allow you to re-spin it for free.
- If Candy is placed by an inactive Mystery Box, Arthur will pick up the box and put it where you fed him.
- If Candy is placed next to standard zombies, Arthur will rampage and kill them.
- If Candy is placed next to a Power-Up, Arthur will change it.
- If Candy is placed next to a buildable workbench, Arthur will build an item for you.
- If Candy is placed by the chalk drawings, Arthur will draw wall-buys wherever you want.
Among all the options, two uses are often the most practical: keeping the Mystery Box at a fixed location and having Arthur hold a crawler—both can support easter egg progress or help you catch a breather during co-op.
