Banjo-Tooie Guide: Mayahem Temple Walkthrough and Hidden Side Routes

Banjo-Tooie’s first truly “big” territory arrives with the Stony tribe’s Mayahem Temple—an area that starts off feeling compact, but quickly reveals side sections that keep pulling you back in. After you complete the initial Jiggywiggy Challenge, you’ll head into the stonework inside the nearby Wooded Hollow, which leads you toward Master Jiggywiggy’s Temple and sets the tone for everything that follows.

Walkthrough Part 2: Mayahem Temple

At first, Mayahem Temple looks like a terraced space with only a handful of places you’d need to explore. That impression mainly applies to the central ground, though. The real staying power comes from the connected side areas—Jade Snake Cove, the Prison Compound, and the temple’s standout highlight, Targitzan’s Temple. Working your way through the Stony region means you’ll do far more than just look around: you’ll take command of a massive golden statue, play kickball while transformed as a Stony, and even step into the first-person shooter mini-game that’s part of the temple’s variety.

Mumbo Jumbo’s Skull: Summon

To start, locate the Glowbo on the lower level of Mumbo’s Skull, then deliver it to the shaman. The reward is access to Mumbo’s “Summon” ability, which lets you bring the Golden Goliath to the second tier.

When you take control of the Golden Goliath, you get a limited window of 75 seconds. During that time, use his towering size and raw strength to smash through obstacles—from boulders to oversized doors. If you still need more progress after breaking what you can, you can lean on Mumbo’s magic to reanimate the statue repeatedly, letting you keep working down every door and opening you can reach (including ones a Jiggy Banjo-Kazooie can’t access).

Don’t forget the specific targets: kick open the entrances that lead to Jade Snake Cove and the Prison Compound, and also break into the Code Chamber located within Jade Snake Cove. After that, destroy the boulder close to the World Entrance to uncover a Flight Pad you’ll be glad to have later.

Humba Wumba’s Wigwam: Stony

Next up, grab the Glowbo bouncing near Humba Wumba’s wigwam, then head inside to meet Humba Wumba, who provides helpful—and often amusing—transformation options.

In exchange for the creature, Humba Wumba transforms you into a Stony, which means you’ll take the form of a backpack-wearing Stony character.

Being a Stony gives you two major advantages. First, you can communicate with the stone-shaped figures scattered throughout the world, which helps you pick up useful information. Second, your reduced size lets you slip into narrow spaces that would otherwise be out of reach. Still, the biggest draw is what that transformation enables: entry into the Mayan Kickball Championship.

You can switch between bear and bird forms and the Stony transformation, but be sure you collect the Honeycomb near the World Entrance and win the Jiggy in the Kickball Championship before you leave the world.
