Chiikawa the Movie Hits 4.4B Yen in Japan as Spider-Man Drops to #2
Spider-Man has slipped to second place at the Japanese box office after last week’s debut, as a new anime feature takes over the top spot. Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, the first animated film adapted from Nagano’s manga, added another 1 billion yen (about €5.9 million) to its earnings. That pushes its total to more than 4.4 billion yen (roughly €24.2 million), solidifying its strong run with continued weekend draw.
Debuting in third is the 34th Crayon Shin-chan movie: Crayon Shin-chan The Movie Super Strange! My Yōkai Monster Vacation. The film opened to about 539.3 million yen (approximately €2.9 million) over its first three days in theaters, landing immediately among the week’s most watched releases.
Meanwhile, Kingdom 5: Tamashii no Kessen fell from third to fifth in its third weekend. The latest live-action entry, based on Yasuhisa Hara’s manga, brought in an additional 452.5 million yen (around €2.4 million). Its cumulative total now stands at over 4.3 billion yen (about €23.6 million), even as it loses ground to newer titles.
In the horror lane, Dareka san to Asobo?—the new film from Takashi Shimizu, director of Ju-on—dropped to ninth place, sliding two spots from last week’s debut. The movie has earned a current total of about 291.9 million yen (about €1.6 million).
Rounding out the chart, the double feature Kamen Rider Zets: Farewell Mission alongside Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity: The Day the Sun Cried slipped to tenth in its second week. Together, the two films have generated approximately 298.3 million yen (about €1.6 million) so far.
