MTG Weekly Stream to Unveil First Detailed Look at Star Trek Set

Magic: The Gathering players have a packed calendar ahead, with MagicCon Amsterdam this weekend set to spotlight upcoming releases like The Hobbit and Reality Fracture, plus a trio of in-universe sets planned for 2027. Before all of that, though, the Weekly MTG stream on Tuesday will deliver the first official, more detailed look at the Star Trek set—also the last Magic set of 2026.

Weekly MTG To Offer First Official Star Trek Details

Right now, the Star Trek MTG set information is limited, but it does include a few concrete points. We know Captain Kirk is featured, there’s a card titled “Boldly Going,” the artwork on that card includes William Shatner, and the set is scheduled to release on November 13, 2026.

The Weekly MTG broadcast will happen on Tuesday, July 14 at 10am PT on the official Magic: The Gathering Twitch channel. The stream will also be posted to the official YouTube channel and added to the Weekly MTG playlist. Runtime typically lands between about 45 minutes and a little over an hour.

Community reaction has been mixed so far. Many Universes Beyond tie-ins have leaned hard into “magic” in some form—whether it’s elemental forces or supernatural themes—so some players have been cautious about how a primarily science-fiction property like Star Trek will translate into Magic’s usual fantasy-driven identity.

Still, there’s a helpful reference point in how Magic can adapt an outer-space concept: the Edge of Eternities set shows that the game can comfortably support space-themed cards. With that in mind, it’s reasonable to expect plenty of Spacecraft and Vehicle cards to show up in the Star Trek release.

There’s also a possibility that the Party mechanic could return. It hasn’t appeared much recently, with only a limited showing in the Final Fantasy set from last year. That would fit neatly with Star Trek’s own terminology for exploration groups—“landing party”—which describes teams that move onto planetary surfaces or other ships and function as a set of distinct roles. Those roles could map well onto Magic: The Gathering’s party-style gameplay structure.

Reality Fracture is shaping up to be a major milestone for MTG, and more details are already out in the open—covering its release timing, the products tied to it, and even some card preview material.

Too Soon For Trekkies To Get Excited?

Even with anticipation for the Star Trek set—especially since it will arrive as the final release before the next Standard rotation—players may want to manage expectations for how much gets revealed on the Weekly MTG stream. The next full set preview is expected to be for The Hobbit, which is set to release in August. After that, Reality Fracture is scheduled for late September prerelease, followed by a full launch in October. With that schedule in mind, it’s likely the Star Trek stream won’t cover enough ground to satisfy every curiosity.

What To Watch Next

There’s plenty happening beyond Tuesday. This week’s MagicCon Amsterdam coverage is expected to bring many more set updates, and there are currently no announced plans for Star Trek to appear in any way at the event. That makes this Weekly MTG episode feel like the main opportunity to get Star Trek set news before your feed becomes dominated by updates on the next two releases—and by what the in-universe sets have in store for 2027.
