Kevin Feige Teases Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has hinted that Thunderbolts* star Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, could make an appearance in the upcoming Spider-Man movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Release window, platforms, and what’s confirmed so far
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Feige’s comments were delivered during a special appearance at Bilibili World 2026 in Shanghai, alongside the unveiling of some new concept artwork.

Feige didn’t come right out and announce that Yelena is definitely in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but his wording makes the connection feel intentional. The MCU architect offered a quick look at what fans should watch for, while also pointing to a “surprise” character who has become more relevant to the franchise’s larger story.
“If you’re a fan of Yelena, wait until Avengers: Doomsday,” Feige said. “Yelena plays a big part in that. But if you don’t want to wait until then, you might see Yelena a little bit sooner in the movies.”
Even without a direct confirmation, fans have plenty of reason to speculate—especially given the timing. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is the only Marvel hero headlining a standalone feature on the big screen before Avengers: Doomsday arrives this December.
Yelena’s presence could also theoretically show up in television instead of movies, but the slate of likely options for the rest of 2026 is fairly limited. The projects mentioned for that window are X-Men ’97, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, and VisionQuest. That narrow list is part of why a growing number of viewers are expecting Yelena—along with the Thunderbolts* angle—to show up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, even if the role is limited to a cameo in a film already packed with established and rumored characters.
As for what the Holland-led movie is set to include, it’s confirmed to feature appearances from Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, and Michael Mando as Scorpion. Sadie Sink is also attached to the project, and she’s currently heavily rumored to portray a new iteration of X-Men mainstay Jean Grey. With Yelena not appearing in the trailers or marketing materials so far, fans may want to temper expectations and assume that any rumored role—if it materializes—could be fairly small.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Cast and Characters: Who’s Confirmed for the MCU Sequel?
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day landing on July 31, 2026, the release is less than three weeks away from the date itself. In the meantime, the spotlight remains on how the film will slot Florence Pugh’s character into the MCU—while also tracking how Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is reportedly setting up the path for Miles Morales within the same cinematic universe.
