Avengers: Doomsday Concept Art Teases 20+ Returning MCU Heroes in Costume

Marvel Studios has released fresh concept art for Avengers: Doomsday, offering an early look at several major MCU figures in full costume. The image highlights a fully suited Cyclops (James Marsden), Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), and other recognizable faces.

MCU producer Kevin Feige debuted the preview artwork at the Bilibili World 2026 event in Shanghai. Attendees snapped pictures that quickly spread across social platforms, and a later, more polished version appeared after Andy Park—who previously directed visual development—was reportedly let go earlier this year.

As a piece of pre-release marketing, this concept art almost certainly doesn’t reveal every cameo or twist Marvel has planned. Still, with only a few months left until the next big Avengers crossover hits theaters, fans are dissecting every detail they can get—especially since this is still “image-first” rather than a full trailer moment.

Quick-scan breakdown of the concept art

  • Shows a fully suited Cyclops (James Marsden), Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), and more.
  • Left side includes Thunderbolts/New Avengers characters: Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell).
  • Also on the left: Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and a short-haired Thor (Chris Hemsworth).
  • X-Men appear in the lower portion with Cyclops, Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), and Gambit (Channing Tatum).
  • Right side brings back the Fantastic Four: First Steps cast, plus Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu).
  • Doctor Doom is framed as the central focus, wearing a shiny metal mask.
  • Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is visible maintaining the position seen after the events of Loki Season 2.
  • Release date remains December 18, 2026.

On the left side of the composition (with spoilers), you can spot Thunderbolts and New Avengers names such as Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), the Red Guardian (David Harbour), and U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell). That section also includes Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) alongside Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who’s depicted with shorter hair than viewers may be used to seeing.

The bottom corner is where the X-Men presence really stands out. The lineup shown there includes Cyclops, Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming), and Gambit (Channing Tatum), tying the ensemble together visually before the art shifts back into the broader MCU mix.

Flip to the right side and the image pulls in the cast from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It also features Black Panther (Letitia Wright) and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), helping reinforce that this movie is aiming to blend multiple Marvel rosters rather than leaning on a single corner of the franchise.

But the true centerpiece sits in the middle. Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom is positioned as the focal point, with fans getting a clear look at the character’s gleaming metal mask. The art also includes Loki (Tom Hiddleston), shown holding the same position fans last saw after Loki Season 2 concluded.

What fans are still waiting on

Even with the concept art circulating, it doesn’t replace the thing most viewers want most: a proper trailer. Marvel watchers will likely have to wait longer for moving footage, and it’s still unclear when a trailer will arrive. What is clear is the schedule—Avengers: Doomsday is set to premiere on December 18, 2026.

The lead-up to that release has been steady, with more teasers arriving as each day passes without a clear look at actual scene footage. Earlier this year, Downey Jr. sparked even more fan speculation with an illustration he shared for Father’s Day, while co-director Joe Russo teased last month that the new movie will bring the MCU “back to phase zero.”

While Avengers: Doomsday remains the big late-2026 event, the next Spider-Man entry is also on the calendar. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to premiere on July 31, 2026, and there’s also been chatter around a leaked action sequence that was later taken offline.
