Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery originally launched back in April 2018, and it has since run for eight years on both iOS and Android. The premise follows a brand-new student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, placed in the gap years between Harry’s birth and his eventual enrollment. In practice, the game mixes social-school life with progress through classic wizarding activities—attending classes, playing Quidditch, talking with professors, learning spells, and making branching narrative decisions as you go.
While there’s plenty of skepticism around HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television plans, this kind of targeted, game-specific content is one way the wider Wizarding World can keep feeling fresh for players who already know the books and stories.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery adds a new side quest for July 2026
On July 9, developer Jam City revealed a new side quest for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery called “A Muggle at Hogwarts.” It’s available to play right now. The quest centers on another field trip to Godric’s Hollow—the well-known setting where Voldemort helped turn Harry Potter into an orphan.
Once players arrive in Godric’s Hollow, the story kicks off with a magical conflict between two students. A young Muggle, equipped with a camera, witnesses what’s happening, and the player’s job becomes finding the students responsible and getting things back under control.
What starts as a straightforward objective expands into a longer adventure that reportedly includes cave trolls, Quidditch, and even appearances connected to Professor Dumbledore. Finishing the quest rewards players with a new wearable camera. Players will also receive the usual quest rewards tied to participating in the side quest’s dialogue and action moments, including the currencies earned throughout the run.
Hogwarts Mystery is part of the 25 years of Harry Potter celebrations
This side quest isn’t the only new content coming during the month. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is currently running a “Summer of Mystery” event, a month-long celebration tied to the 25th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. As part of the celebration, a new Mini Hogwarts Diary event is set to provide a special bonus item, and a three-week community challenge has started as well—earning escalating rewards by collecting House Points.

Later in the month, two additional special adventures are scheduled to be added to Hogwarts Mystery. At the time of announcement, their exact names and full details were not provided. One adventure is described around helping a “beloved Hogwarts professor” get ready for the new school year. The other is teased as a “thrilling dragon-filled journey.” If these follow the same approximate length as “A Muggle at Hogwarts,” players should expect about an hour of gameplay per adventure.
From July 23 through July 31, players will also be able to take part in a “25 Years of Magic” sweepstakes, which offers a chance to win special prizes outside the game. Then, on July 31, players can claim a new in-game outfit in honor of Harry Potter’s birthday.
