Mass Effect 3 Citadel: Alien Medi-Gel Formula Quest—Timing Matters

Mass Effect 3’s Citadel: Alien Medi-Gel Formula side quest is a short but important errand that asks you to track down a specific upgrade item, then deliver it to the right person—before a key storyline milestone locks you out. If you’re the kind of player who likes to tie up loose ends on the Citadel, this one is worth planning for.

Why this side mission needs timing

The quest has a hard cutoff: you can’t finish it after the moment the main quest “Priority: Tuchanka” begins. That means you’ll want to hand in the Medi-Gel Formula before you move on and trigger that later point in the game.

It also helps to know what you’re working toward and where the pieces are. This guide lays out the mission’s stats, where to retrieve the formula, and who to deliver it to—plus what to do if you missed an earlier object along the way.

Mission Stats and rewards

Mission Rewards

  • Experience: 30 XP
  • Mission Credits: 1,000 credits
  • War Asset: +8 TMS to Hanar and Drell Forces

How to find the Medi-Gel Formula

  • Prerequisite: Begin “N7: Cerberus Lab”
  • Location: Sigurd’s Cradle – Decoris – Sanctum

This side mission is unusual in that you can effectively start it mid-activity. Specifically, you’ll be able to begin while you’re already running “N7: Cerberus Lab”. That becomes available once you’ve gained full control of the Normandy after “Priority: The Citadel 1”.

When you reach the Cerberus Lab, clear out the opening group of enemies. However, don’t hand the first Reaper Artifact to Cortez. Keeping that area clear lets you move around more freely and search without constantly fighting new waves.

Instead, make your way to the spot where the first Reaper Artifact is located, then find the nearby doorway. Go through it, then pass through the next doorway to reach a separate side room.

Inside that room, check near the back-right corner. You’ll find an object labeled “Failed Medi-Gel Experiment”. The implication is that Cerberus considered it a failure because it would primarily benefit the Hanar. The quest’s tone makes it clear Shepard isn’t interested in Cerberus gatekeeping who gets help, and is willing to put their research to use.

If you missed the Failed Medi-Gel Experiment while playing “N7: Cerberus Lab”, you still have a backup route. Return to the Citadel and visit Spectre Requisitions. There you can purchase the “Non-Human Medi-Gel Upgrade” for 1,000 credits. Buying it also satisfies the requirement for this quest.

While you’re already in Sigurd’s Cradle, the guide suggests taking the time to explore the surrounding cluster to pick up Search and Rescue items.

How to deliver the Medi-Gel Formula

  • Prerequisite: Complete “Priority: Palaven”
  • Location: Serpent Nebula – Widow – Citadel – Huerta Memorial Hospital

Once you’ve obtained the Medi-Gel Formula, the next step is to complete the main story mission “Priority: Palaven”. Doing so unlocks the full Citadel for you to roam, and it also brings a number of NPCs into place—including Dr. Ravin.

Dr. Ravin can be found at Huerta Memorial Hospital. From the entry elevator, turn left to locate her standing in a green uniform in front of an empty hospital bed. Wait briefly before speaking with her to hear her situation, then talk to her again to hand over the Medi-Gel Formula and finish the mission.
