Romance Anime Watchlist Updated: Fresh 2026 Titles for Summer and Fall
Updated July 9, 2026 — Summer 2026 is in full swing, so this refresh adds a starter-friendly set of romance anime picks. It also updates the Fall 2026 calendar with newly confirmed titles, keeping the list focused on romance-first series (no movies, and no OVAs).
2026’s romance anime lineup has been surprisingly strong. Winter and Spring brought plenty of memorable options, and Summer is expected to keep the pace going. With so many new romance releases landing, a series really has to be distinctive to rise above the noise—so titles like You and I Are Polar Opposites, Agents of the Four Seasons, and I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class are exactly the kind of standouts that deserve your attention.
Because the volume of romance anime can get overwhelming, it’s hard to track everything—or even fit it into your schedule. My usual recommendation is to sample at least the first episode of each show, since everyone’s tastes differ. Still, this guide is meant to make your choices easier by listing all of 2026’s new romance anime and pointing you toward good places to start.
To keep things clear, the seasonal sections split new romance anime from sequels. There’s also a separate segment for romance anime that haven’t announced a season yet but are targeting 2026.
Inclusions note: This list only covers shows where romance is a primary focus to some degree. Movies and OVAs are not included.

Winter 2026 Romance Anime Series Recommendations
We’re not going to deep-dive every love story from Winter 2026—because that would take forever. Instead, here are some of the season’s standout romances worth making time for. This isn’t a ranking list; it’s more about covering a few different “entry points” so more people can find something that clicks.
As always, the best approach is still to sample multiple series and see what fits your preferences. But if you want a starting list, these are solid picks:
- You and I Are Polar Opposites — A sweet romance built around the “opposites attract” idea, with the main couple getting together almost right away. With slice-of-life and comedy tones, the series leans into cozy, fluffy moments where the characters can just exist without constant tension.
- The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife — Even with its unusual setup, this anime lands as wholesome and charming. It’s also refreshing to see a blind protagonist taking center stage. Yakou and Tounome have a genuinely likable on-screen dynamic.
- In the Clear Moonlit Dusk — If you’re looking for the most “romance-forward” romance anime this winter, this is a strong candidate. A school’s female “prince” starts a relationship with a local badboy, and the show doesn’t waste time before moving toward the good parts.
- Tamon’s B-Side — The funniest romance entry of the season, largely because Utage’s reactions are a constant source of laughs. She becomes a housekeeper for her favorite idol, but Tamon’s private personality is totally different from the confident version fans see on stage. While he keeps his secret, Tamon also tries to help Tomon feel more comfortable in her own skin.
- There was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, so I Tried Confessing to Her — It’s not flawless, but it’s a solid isekai romance with brisk pacing and two easy-to-root-for leads.
- Love Through a Prism — Released as a batch on Netflix, it’s arguably the best romance of the season, potentially even surpassing You and I Are Polar Opposites. While it isn’t exclusively a romance title, Lili and Kit’s relationship stays consistently central across the run.

Spring 2026 Romance Anime Series Recommendations
While Winter 2026 delivered the strongest single batch of new romance with You and I are Polar Opposites, Spring 2026 had the more satisfying overall lineup. Romcoms stood out, with nearly every show in the mix landing as at least decent. If you stuck to romance anime, you likely had more than enough episodes to watch each week.
- I Made Friends with the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class — At first, it didn’t fully grab attention; the earliest episodes don’t really “wow” you. But the series improves episode by episode, with a big part of that success coming from how well Umi and Maki click. Their chemistry is strong from the start, and their growth feels paced effectively, advancing almost every chapter. Don’t be turned off by the title—it isn’t meant as an insult.
- The Klutzy Class Monitor and the Girl with the Short Skirt — This is a “don’t judge a book by its cover” style story, with “opposites attract” vibes baked in. Tougo enforces the rules as the student in charge, and he tells Poem her skirt doesn’t meet the required length. Poem snaps back, and that moment becomes the start of a friendly—possibly more—relationship. Tougo and Poem develop a warm, charming dynamic quickly, and the show doesn’t frame them as enemies turning into friends; they just work well together, and their bond grows a lot through the series.
- Marriagetoxin — Take a break from typical love stories and look at a battle shonen-flavored twist. Marriagetoxin isn’t outstanding in comedy, action, or romance on its own, but it succeeds by blending all three, with an energy similar to Dandadan (just not at the same level). Hikaru, from a poison-family background, is an assassin who must find a bride to keep his bloodline going—yet he’s terrible at dating. He meets Mei, a marriage counselor and con artist, who agrees to help. The anime moves through short arcs that introduce new women as potential partners for Hikaru. Overall, it’s simply entertaining, and the chemistry between Mei and Hikaru makes it hard to root for other pairings, even though the other women are generally likable. The fight scenes aren’t mind-blowing, but they’re serviceable since Hikaru relies more on traps than brute strength.
- Agents of the Four Seasons — A romance fantasy with real stakes, and one of Spring 2026’s best overall shows—not only within the romance space. Based on a light novel from the same author behind Violet Evergarden, it mixes character-driven drama with emotional weight, great music, and consistently strong animation.
- The Ramparts of Ice — In recent years, anxiety-focused anime have become more common, and The Ramparts of Ice earns its place next to Bocchi the Rock. Koyuki is traumatized by middle school bullying and builds a protective wall so she won’t get hurt again—leaving her with only one friend in high school. When two guys enter her circle, her comfort zone gets challenged and expands. Romance is part of the setup, but it doesn’t dominate at first; the show prioritizes the group’s friendships before pairing anyone off. That said, romance eventually takes a more central role.
- Go For It, Nakamura! — This is a different kind of “romance” story, to the point where it’s arguable it doesn’t even fit the genre label. It’s a boys’ love series following Nakamura, who has a big crush on classmate Hirose. He wants to be friends with him and is willing to put himself out there to make it happen. Even if Hirose doesn’t seem to return the feelings, Nakamura keeps trying.
- Kamiina Botan, the Drunken Appearance Is a Lily Flower — Switching from boys’ love to girls’ love, Kamiina Botan is more direct about interest, and the constant drinking helps keep the tone lively. Centered on college students, the show feels refreshing.
- Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!? — Another title that outperforms its premise. Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku does something unusual: it treats a throuple as a genuine option. Seo forms friendships with two girls, Ijiche and Amane, who are also best friends. The title isn’t fully accurate because Ijiche and Amane are pretty consistently kind to Seo, so there isn’t much tension between them. Still, it’s a cute anime.

A proper villainess story where the evil Keigetsu swaps bodies with the kindhearted Reirin. Romance stays central since both end up as imperial consorts.
After a betrayal, Chloe attempts to abandon her spy life and live quietly in another kingdom. Unfortunately, her skills pull in attention from lots of people, including Jeffrey Asher.
Looking for the Summer 2026 anime schedule? This is where to stream every series across Crunchyroll, Netflix, Prime Video, HIDIVE, and Hulu.
The Spring 2026 season has started, and most shows have already aired their first episode. It’s still too early to confidently call which romance anime will end up as “the best,” but a few series are good for jump-starting your watchlist.
- Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You — One of the most exciting new romances this season uses a release pattern that’s different from most shows. Right now, there are 12 mini-episodes on Crunchyroll, which cover the first six “standard” episodes. Starting July 9, the show begins releasing “normal” episodes made by combining two mini segments. The idea is straightforward: you can watch the mini-episodes now, then wait for the next combined episodes to drop in August once episode 7 arrives. If you prefer, you can also skip the mini-episodes entirely and watch the combined episodes weekly.
- Kaiju Girl Caramelise — Another highly anticipated romance, and the hype mostly comes from its premise. Kurou has a disease that turns her into a kaiju whenever she feels strong emotions, including embarrassment or attraction. Because of that, she tries to keep distance—especially from the popular Arata. But when he starts talking to her more, the affection builds, and the story delivers a Godzilla-style transformation.
- Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky — Summer 2026’s most “romance-focused” romance is built around a socially isolated university student who starts helping a blind young woman. The chemistry is strong, and their relationship feels different from the usual setup, giving it room for real emotional depth. Be ready to cry.
- Rich Girl Caretaker: I’m Secretly the Caregiver of the Most Popular Girl in This Rich Kid School — If you’d rather laugh than cry, Rich Girl Caretaker is the one to check. Itsuki accidentally gets dragged into a kidnapping situation alongside wealthy Hinako, only to learn that Hinako’s idol-like image at school is a mask—and that she’s actually lazy and out of touch. In the long run, Itsuki ends up acting as her caretaker. Romance hasn’t fully bloomed yet, but it’s clearly part of where the story is headed.
