Moonlight Peaks Beginner Guide: Get a Free Rod and Catch 3 Fish
If you’re starting out in Moonlight Peaks, you can save a chunk of money right away by grabbing a free fishing rod from an NPC named Noel. He’ll hand you a brief side quest focused on catching three different fish types—an easy way to learn the fishing loop before you spend coins on better gear.
That small piece of early-game guidance is also coming at a time when the indie space on Steam is dealing with a tougher environment overall, as the ongoing surge of AI-produced material adds pressure to an already crowded release pipeline.
Where to Find a Free Fishing Rod in Moonlight Peaks
On your second day in Moonlight Peaks, go one screen to the right of your home, then travel north until you reach a small beach. As soon as you pass by, Noel should begin talking to you automatically.
If you’re still stuck on the first day, you can move time forward by resting inside the coffin located in your house. That same method is also how you can manually save your progress.
After you talk to Noel, he’ll provide the fishing rod. Equip it by opening your circular tool menu, then cast your bobber into the water. From there, the process is straightforward: wait until a fish pays attention to the bait, and once it bites, hold down the Reel button to pull the fish toward you.
If the only fish you’re seeing around Noel’s beach are Whispers, don’t assume fishing is bugged—try scouting other water areas across the map to locate additional fish species.
When you’ve captured all three fish, bring them back to Noel. He’ll be in the middle of town, near the cluster of shops. Completing the quest earns you 250 Coins.

Where to Buy a Stronger Fishing Rod
If you decide to upgrade later, you can purchase a Premium Fishing Rod in Moonlight Peaks from Ridge’s Howling Hammer shop. The catch is the price: it needs a basic fishing rod, three Gold Bars, and a total cost of 16,000 coins.
Ridge’s Premium option is especially useful if you’re struggling to land larger fish in Moonlight Peaks, since it’s designed to make those catches more manageable once you’ve already learned the basics.
