Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced Overrun and Outnumbered Guide
“The Sage’s Buried Secret” wraps up Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: Resynced’s main story Sequence 4, but it immediately kicks you into its next objective chain. Your next stop is the mission “Overrun and Outnumbered,” a rescue-focused operation where you have to free nine captives while clearing enough soldiers to make it out alive. Below is a player-friendly route for moving through the area efficiently, plus what happens right after the last prisoner is released.

How “Overrun and Outnumbered” gets started
You don’t get time to breathe between missions. As soon as you finish “The Sage’s Buried Secret,” the game places you directly into “Overrun and Outnumbered.” James Kidd hands you the Blowpipe, and you can immediately put it to work—your job is to save nine prisoners.
First, look for the initial captive just north of the spot where you exit the temple while traveling with Kidd. Kidd will help by taking out nearby enemies, but don’t assume the mission will be quick: you’ll still be clearing soldiers repeatedly to recover every last prisoner.
Overrun and Outnumbered takedown suggestion
Recommended approach for the rescue route:
- Head across the branches toward the east.
- Drop down and assassinate the guard positioned to your left.
- Climb up the building and eliminate the gunner.
- Move across the branches in the northwest to get behind the two guards holding the prisoners.
- Use the Blowpipe or quietly assassinate both targets.
- Deal with the guard on their left quickly to prevent alarms from snowballing.
- Climb up the tree, then travel east and follow the rope to assassinate the next guard beside the campfire.
- Scale the southern wall and jump across the pillars.
- Land and assassinate the guard standing between them.
- From there, use the prisoners in the east to perform a rapid double assassination on the two nearby enemies.
- Release the prisoners, then climb the small structure behind them to synchronize the Viewpoint. This step also sets you up to use your vision to tag the remaining prisoner and guard locations.
- Jump into the water, swim upward, and remove the guards protecting the next two prisoners.
- Go to the northeast and search under the watchtowers and huts to locate a lone prisoner being guarded.
- Use bushes and branches to slip toward the huts in the south, but watch for the gunner.
- Slip behind the two soldiers near the campfire and double assassinate them.
- Head east toward the final prisoner guarded by two soldiers.
- Double assassinate the pair, then free the last prisoner.
- Run east to find James Kidd.
Speak to Kidd
Once you finish the rescue objective, you’ll watch a cutscene and then need to speak with James Kidd outside the pigeon coop. Kidd explains that contracts can be picked up from the pigeon coop—called Assassins Contracts—and confirms they’re now unlocked.
Follow Kidd again and you’ll be taken back inside the Mayan Temple. From there, you’ll be guided to a door where you’re prompted to insert the Mayan Stone you found earlier.
After this mission concludes, you’ll learn there are additional Mayan Stelae out in the world to track down. More missions will also open up from here, including the side quest “Mayan Mysteries.”
