Apex Legends Announces Cyberpunk: Mercenaries Event Launching July 14
Respawn Entertainment has revealed a full Cyberpunk crossover coming to Apex Legends, with the event going live on July 14. The partnership, branded “Cyberpunk: Mercenaries,” is set to swap in Night City-inspired visuals, introduce fresh Cyberware gameplay mechanics, and roll out cosmetics drawn from the franchise’s anime-adjacent look.
Key takeaways
- The Cyberpunk crossover event for Apex Legends starts on July 14.
- The event is named “Cyberpunk: Mercenaries” and centers on Night City themes.
- Two new Cyberware modifiers in Joker Mode power a mechanic called Cyberpsychosis.
- District-E is being reworked with neon skyline visuals, holographic koi carp, and failing sign effects.
- Lucy, V, Panam, David, and other franchise characters are getting character skin drops.
What’s coming with the Apex Legends x Cyberpunk cross over?
District-E is set to receive a Night City makeover, complete with towering neon skyscrapers. The map’s look will also be enhanced with holographic koi carp drifting through the sky, alongside flickering signs that appear to be on the verge of failing. While these alterations are primarily cosmetic, they’re clearly meant to help you sink deeper into the Cyberpunk atmosphere while you play.
The biggest gameplay change arrives through Cyberpsychosis, which will be introduced via two new Cyberware modifiers that are available in Joker Mode.
- Sandevistan focuses on speed, letting you trigger sudden movement boosts in any direction.
- Blackwall Invasion allows you to enter the Network to reposition, then sends you back with a disruptive EMP that silences opponents and destroys shields.
As these features are used, they’ll contribute to filling the Cyberpsychosis meter. Once the meter reaches its maximum, you’ll enter a high-powered state featuring extreme movement speed and severe body damage. The catch is major: during this surge, you won’t be able to use weapons, skills, or explosives. In other words, it’s a playstyle built around high risk and high reward.
Technical design leader Jesse Medellin discussed the intent behind the mechanic, explaining that the team knew Cyberpsychosis needed to be a core part of the experience. The goal, as described, was to highlight “the overwhelming power and inherent vulnerability that appears when one loses control.”
Cosmetics, Mythic gear, and event currency
On the cosmetics front, Apex Legends will be adding character skins for Lucy, V, Panam, David, and other familiar Cyberpunk franchise picks. There’s also a Mythic skin coming to the Alternator SMG, shaped by the collaboration and themed around the Goon character.
Art director Alisa Rastorgueva framed the Mythic offering as one of the most engaging companion-style experiences ever made for a Mythic weapon, emphasizing that it blends visual presentation with character-specific animations and dialogue.
To support progression, the event introduces a dedicated currency called Eddies. Players can earn Eddies through the Mythic weapon’s progression tiers and then spend them in the Rewards Store on themed items.
It’s also framed as a convenient moment to ride the broader Cyberpunk wave, with a new TCG, Netflix series activity, and 2077 reportedly reaching 40 million copies sold after the Steam Summer Sale began.
For the full breakdown and images, the event details are available on the Apex Legends website.
