This Old Cove Walkthrough: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Sequence 4 Guide
This Old Cove is the fourteenth mission in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and it also marks the start of Sequence 4. The quest picks up right after A Single Madman, with Kidd waking Edward from a nap in what he’s hoping will become their new hideout. Your goals here are to dig deeper into how the hideout works and to learn the steps needed to broaden your pirate republic. This walkthrough covers the mission objectives you’ll need to complete, along with the collectibles you can pick up along the way.
Starting This Old Cove
After finishing A Single Madman, speak to Kidd and follow him. He leads you to a tree and a set of ancient pillars, then asks you to use your vision to solve a puzzle.
Climb to the top of the pillars and interact with them to begin investigating. As you do, white markings appear on the floor near the pillars.
The puzzle revolves around aligning those markings by rotating and adjusting their size.
- Rotate the markings left or right so they align roughly beneath the pillars.
- Resize them so they become smaller.
Once aligned correctly, a shining yellow circle appears nearby. Interact with it to dig up a Mayan treasure. This turns out to be a Mayan Stelae—the first of several you can discover throughout the game.
Manor Access, Locked Skeleton, and Hunts
Keep following Kidd, and he brings you into the manor. After you’ve seen the chests stacked inside, make sure you interact with the treasure chest before you move forward with Kidd as you head up the stairs.
At the top, you’ll spot a skeleton wearing a special outfit, but it’s sealed behind a cage. You’ll automatically use the Templar Key that was taken from du Casse. Kidd then directs you toward the four remaining keys, and this automatically unlocks four Templar Hunts.
When Kidd leaves, you’ll meet the butler of the house. From here, more quests become available, and you’ll gain access to manor upgrades.
What Gets Unlocked: Side Content and Progression
Along with the main progression, the following side quests are unlocked:
- Damn Fine Gear
- Former Glories
- Art Lover
You can also interact with tables inside to handle Manor Upgrades and Fleet Planning. Fleet Planning is where you can send out ships to complete missions on your behalf. However, if you want to unlock the map, you’ll need to complete Forts across each region.
When you’re ready to wrap up the mission, head down to the docks and speak with James Kidd again. While you’re there, you’ll also notice buildings you can restore, including the Harbourmaster and Tavern. Kidd will be ready to depart the Cove and tells you to meet him later if you’re interested in dangerous prizes.
After your conversation with Kidd, Adewale steps in. Follow him, grab the rations, and then take them to the Tavern to drop them on the floor.
On the way, Adewale explains what you need in order to upgrade the ship’s crew. Once you reach the Tavern, talk to him again—he’ll tell you who he wants to recruit for the crew. This unlocks multiple Officer Quests for you to complete. You’ll also receive a pop-up about the Dark Animus, which introduces limited-time Anomalies.
