Cloud Strife Voice Actor Promises a Vulnerable, Emotional Finale in FF7 Revelation
Cody Christian—the actor who voices Cloud Strife in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Revelation—has teased that the third installment’s finale leans hard into “emotionality and vulnerability.” In comments prompted by a fan question, Christian described the end of Revelation as a “payoff,” adding that players who didn’t already cry during the first two entries should expect tears by the time the trilogy’s conclusion arrives.
Long before the current trilogy wrapped its arms around Midgar in modern graphics, PlayStation helped light the fuse back in 2005. During its E3 presentation, it showed a trailer featuring the iconic city of Midgar in a newly enhanced look—meant as a showcase for Square Enix’s Crystal Tools engine, but one that stuck with audiences anyway. That spark didn’t vanish; it resurfaced years later as Final Fantasy 7 Remake, then grew again into Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and now—21 years after that original E3 moment—fans are preparing to receive the third and final remake entry in the long-requested Final Fantasy 7 trilogy.
Square Enix is also keeping an open door for additional Final Fantasy remakes, pointing to the momentum generated by its recent remake run.
Cloud Strife Actor Says Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Will Have Fans “Sobbing”
During San Antonio Kawacon, Cody Christian—who plays Cloud Strife across the remake trilogy—spoke about the emotional landing awaiting players in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. Responding to a fan identified as Ally B, Christian specifically highlighted how the final chapter leans into vulnerability and personal stakes, framing the ending as an “emotional payoff” for anyone who’s been through the story so far.
“There’s so much emotionality, there’s so much vulnerability… There are moments in this that if you haven’t cried in the first two yet, I guarantee you’ll be sobbing in this third one… It’s a payoff.”
Without spoiling key details, the ending of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth already landed with a bittersweet tone. Based on what’s been shown so far for Revelation, it appears the third game will continue to build on that foundation—setting up a highly personal, character-focused conclusion for some of the franchise’s most enduring figures.
Shortly after the announcement trailer for FF7 Revelation aired during Summer Game Fest last month, director Naoki Hamaguchi echoed similar thoughts about the emotional weight of the finale. Speaking with a Brazilian outlet, Hamaguchi said he has completed the main story “about 40 times.” He also claimed there’s a specific moment that reliably brings him to tears each time, even though he did not directly reveal what the scene is. Hamaguchi added that the sequence is “essential to the story of Final Fantasy 7” and involves Cloud working through “a moment of introspection” tied to his identity.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s Emotional Ending Might Not Be The End
Even with all the emotional pressure surrounding a trilogy finale, it’s possible Final Fantasy 7 Revelation won’t be the last time players see this remake story. An Epic Games Store listing spotted by a fan and shared to r/GamingLeaksAndRumors on July 2 reportedly includes references to additional DLC, including a “Story Expansion pass.” If that information reflects real plans, it would suggest more narrative content could follow after the base game launches.
