LEGO’s E.T. Set Brings the Heart-Glow Alien to Life for Your Shelf

LEGO is getting ready to bring the beloved alien from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial into brick-built life, complete with poseable parts and a chest light that makes his heart glow red—so you can recreate the magic of that unforgettable “phone home” moment on your shelf.

LEGO E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial set details

The new LEGO set, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (21370), is slated to release on August 1. It’s priced at $139.99 in the US and £119.99 in the UK, and it’s available to pre-order now through Lego.com.

  • Piece count: 1,226 pieces
  • Size: 24cm tall, with a footprint of 21cm wide and 15cm deep
  • Scale: described as almost exactly quarter scale, with the real character estimated at around 1 meter tall

Posing, accessories, and the glowing heart

As you’d expect from a LEGO figure designed to mimic a classic character, this version of E.T. includes movable elements for display and staging. You’ll be able to pose the model’s head and hands to help recreate his iconic “phone home” posture.

  • Pose options: head and hands can be positioned to match the familiar gesture
  • Included prop: a buildable pot plant featuring sunflowers
  • Light feature: a light-up brick in the chest to illuminate E.T.’s heart in red

There’s one limitation to keep in mind: while the chest light brings the heart effect to life, you can’t make E.T.’s finger lights up.

LEGO Ideas connection and franchise history

This upcoming brick build is set to be the latest LEGO Ideas creation to reach store shelves. LEGO Ideas is the program where fan-submitted concepts are reviewed and then put to community voting before selected ideas become official sets.

It also won’t be the first time LEGO has used E.T. The character previously appeared in LEGO’s larger universe as a minifigure in LEGO Dimensions.

Where the character comes from

The original E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial movie hit theaters in 1982, featuring Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore, and directed by Stephen Spielberg.

Over the years, different sequel ideas were discussed, and Thomas later reunited with his alien puppet in 2019 for a Christmas-themed short film titled A Holiday Reunion. That project was also described as a long-form commercial for Xfinity.

So with LEGO Ideas now putting E.T. into a buildable form, the big question is simple: will you welcome E.T. back into your home this year?
