Crimson Desert Guide: How to Obtain Tarandus the Ashen Armor Set

The Tarandus the Ashen Armor Set has arrived in Crimson Desert as part of update 1.13. The set’s design draws from the look of the boss it’s named after—Tarandus the Ashen—featuring an antlered helm, a white-and-gold color scheme, and a combination of plate and leather armor pieces.

Like most armor collections in Crimson Desert, the Tarandus the Ashen set is not something you simply “complete” by finding one item. Instead, it’s spread across multiple tasks and challenges, and you’ll need to collect each component individually to build the full set.

Players who want a defensive option against winter hazards will also want to pay attention to the Frostcursed-style protection angle mentioned alongside this guide. Below are the locations and requirements for every piece of the Tarandus the Ashen set.

All Tarandus The Ashen Armor Set Piece Locations in Crimson Desert

There are five pieces in the Tarandus the Ashen armor set.

Can be obtained by defeating Tarandus the Ashen in the Ashen Warrior quest, which sits under Faction Quests → Pailune → Odeck Tribe → Executioner of Justice → Ashen Warrior.

Can be purchased from the Back Alley Shop, positioned just south of Odeck in the northwestern area of the map, after you’ve defeated Tarandus the Ashen.

The Ashen’s Leather Boots

Can be obtained by completing the Life Challenge: Caves Exploration Log (acquire 100 caves knowledge).

Can be obtained by completing the Goyen’s Advice Training Challenge: On a Storm of Beasts (hang onto a bear for more than 10 seconds).

The Ashen’s Leather Cloak

Can be obtained by completing the Life Challenge: Tiny Citizens of Grasslands (acquire all insect and arthropod knowledge).

If you’ve already met the requirements for certain Tarandus the Ashen pieces, the game will send those completed items to your Private Storage the next time you boot up your save. The Helmet is the only component you’ll still need to go purchase.

How to Get The Ashen’s Plate Armor

The Ashen’s Plate Armor drops as a reward for defeating the Tarandus the Ashen boss in Crimson Desert. The fight is tied to an Odeck Tribe Faction Quest accessible through Faction Quests → Pailune → Odeck Tribe → Executioner of Justice → Ashen Warrior.

Once you complete enough Faction Quest missions in Pailune, the Odeck Tribe category for Executioner of Justice will automatically show up in your journal. The first quest in that category is The Black Bears and the Red Smoke. After you clear it, the Ashen Warrior quest appears, letting you go face and defeat Tarandus the Ashen.

How to Get The Ashen’s Plate Helmet

You can buy The Ashen’s Plate Helmet from the Back Alley Vendor, Craig, south of Odeck for 39.64 Silver. Odeck is located in the northwestern corner of the map. Craig’s shop is on the roadside by the river that flows into Odeck, positioned just north of the nearby Abyss Nexus.

If you’ve already obtained the other sections of The Ashen’s armor set, you should be able to repurchase those pieces from the same Back Alley Shop vendor as well, similar to what the referenced screenshot shows.

How to Get The Ashen’s Leather Boots

The Ashen Leather Boots are earned for completing the White Crow’s Gaze Life Challenge – Caves Exploration Log: Acquire 100 caves knowledge. The Sealed Abyss Artifact that starts this challenge is located northwest of Pailune. You’ll find it on a pile of rocks along the road, just west of the “Silver Wolf Mountains” text on the map.

Reaching the 100-caves knowledge requirement means you must discover exactly 100 caves in the game world. There are 136 caves total, and you’ll likely stumble across many during normal exploration. Beyond checking cave locations through map guides, there aren’t any shortcuts for this requirement.

How to Get The Ashen’s Plate Gloves

The Ashen’s Plate Gloves are rewarded for finishing Goyen’s Advice Training Challenge – On a Storm of Beasts: Hang onto a bear for more than 10 seconds. The Sealed Abyss Artifact that triggers this challenge can be found at an altar inside Odeck, just north of the Odeck Floodgates building—the large bridge spanning the river.

To complete the bear challenge, you first need to unlock the Back Hang ability by upgrading the Grappling skill to level 4 (you can do this on any character). After that, track down a bear.

One bear spawns northwest of the Sanctum of Penitence in southeast Hernand, right next to the Abyss Nexus.

When you spot the bear, close in and jump, then activate Back Hang to latch onto its back. Once you’re attached, repeatedly use Focus Palm. This keeps the bear stun-locked long enough that you can ride out the full timer without much trouble.

How to Get The Ashen’s Leather Cloak

The Ashen’s Leather Cloak is the reward for completing White Crow’s Gaze Life Challenge – Tiny Citizens of Grasslands: Acquire all insect and arthropod knowledge (76). The Sealed Abyss Artifact that begins the challenge is situated by the road southeast of Odeck’s Back Alley Shop, directly north of the Beast Hunter’s Camp.

The guide suggests two key tools for this task: the Helm of Knowledge (located at the Scholastone Institute) and the Kuku Insect Gatherer’s Pack, whose blueprint unlocks after you complete the Sanctum of Oblation.

Use the Helm of Knowledge to find butterflies you still haven’t collected—many of the harder-to-reach ones are reported to be east of Odeck near the spot where you picked up the Sealed Abyss Artifact.

The Kuku Insect Gatherer’s Pack is for collecting the remaining bugs. Teleport around, walk with the pack active, and the game will steadily accumulate catches over time, letting you satisfy the Life challenge requirements naturally as you move.
