Two New Mass Effect Releases Teased for 2027 as Next Chapter Looms
It’s been years since a brand-new Mass Effect mainline entry launched—after Andromeda arrived in 2017, the series has largely relied on older adventures to keep its community alive. Still, fans haven’t stopped hunting for anything new, and 2027 is shaping up to deliver two fresh Mass Effect releases that should at least scratch the itch while bigger plans are still taking shape.
Why Mass Effect Is Still a Big Deal
It’s honestly impressive that Mass Effect remains relevant nearly two decades after it first hit, even with a noticeably quiet release schedule in recent years. Outside of Mass Effect: Andromeda, the latest major game release in the franchise is Legendary Edition from 2021—an updated re-release of the original trilogy that also remasters the first game.
Even though Andromeda didn’t exactly land with universal approval, the lukewarm reception hasn’t killed the momentum for what comes next. Players are still energized, and the discussion now naturally turns toward the future story possibilities for Mass Effect 5, with speculation spanning everything from large-scale, high-pressure conflicts to more intimate, personal character-driven arcs.
New 2027 Mass Effect PVC Figures: EDI and Thane
In the meantime, there’s tangible new Mass Effect content on the way: two official figures are scheduled for 2027, announced by Dark Horse Direct. The company is preparing PVC recreations of EDI and Thane Krios, with heights of 8.6 inches and 8.75 inches respectively.
- Both figures are designed to match the characters’ appearances across the Mass Effect trilogy.
- EDI is noted as appearing physically only in the third game of the series.
- The build quality is described as especially detailed, with Thane highlighted for particularly impressive texture work on his clothing.
Of the two, Thane is often framed as the more recognizable fan favorite, though both characters are still considered less central than the series’ biggest names. Even so, it’s a welcome move to see them translated into figure form with this level of care.
Each PVC figure will retail for $59.99. The expected release window is January to February 2027.
Dark Horse’s Figure Line Continues (And Fallout Is Coming Too)
Dark Horse Direct has built a reputation as a reliable stop for video game collectibles, with a wide range of brands under its umbrella. The announcement also points to other properties in its catalog, including Borderlands, Cyberpunk, and Halo, among others.
Just recently, the company also revealed a new Fallout figure set planned for around the same timeframe as the Thane and EDI releases. It’s positioned as one more option for collectors, and the figures are framed as comparatively affordable given their described quality.
Mass Effect 5 Update: Development Continues, but Don’t Expect a Date Yet
When it comes to Mass Effect 5 itself, news has been much harder to come by. The project has been in development for years, and the first teaser trailer dates back to December 2020. Despite that early peek, there’s still very little confirmed information available at this stage.
Recently, the game’s director stated that work is ongoing, which is at least a positive signal that progress is continuing behind the scenes. Still, fans shouldn’t treat that as a hint that a release date is close—there’s no expectation that Mass Effect 5 will be announced for launch anytime soon.
