VfL Osnabrück Fans Unveil Spectacular Rollercoaster Tifo vs Bayern Munich

VfL Osnabrück turned the Bremer Brücke into a moving tribute to the club’s turbulent past on 2 September, unveiling an elaborate terrace display before Bayern Munich recovered from an early setback to win 4-1.

A rollercoaster of club history

1. Supporters spent several months building a large mechanical choreography under the theme “VfL Osnabrück – a rollercoaster ride!”
2. The construction used wooden slats, plastic pipes and fabric, with a carriage carrying mannequins moving along a set of rails in the stand.
3. As the carriage reached a mock photo point, it set off a staged flash and the resulting image was shown on the terrace to the right.
4. The display was designed to reflect Osnabrück’s long record of highs and lows, including the celebrated 1978 victory against Bayern as well as scandals and painful defeats.

The home support also sang a specially created song, “Funpark Bremer Brücke”, as the choreography unfolded. The stadium’s atmosphere was given an immediate lift when Osnabrück took an unexpected lead after five minutes.

Bayern overturn early deficit

Osnabrück’s advantage did not last. Harry Kane struck twice for Bayern, while Tom Bischof and Michael Olise also scored as the visitors completed a 4-1 comeback.

Despite the result, the occasion offered Osnabrück supporters a rare chance to celebrate the club’s identity against one of Germany’s major sides. The 1978 win over Bayern remains among the defining moments in a history that has otherwise included repeated disappointments.

Second-tier survival now the priority

Osnabrück arrive in the 2. Bundesliga after winning the third-tier title last season, and avoiding relegation is now the central target. The club has never played in Germany’s top division, making the retention of second-tier status especially significant.

The defeat to Bayern brought a harsh final scoreline, but the early goal and the Bremer Brücke’s response provided encouragement ahead of a demanding campaign in which Osnabrück will seek to remain in the division.
