Valencia are advancing talks with Javier Aguirre as they search for a permanent successor to Carlos Corberan, with the Mexican coach emerging as the leading candidate after negotiations intensified this week.
Sporting director Braulio Vazquez has handled discussions with Aguirre’s representatives, and a key meeting on Friday moved the parties closer to an agreement. There is a shared willingness to complete a deal, while other coaches contacted by the club are understood to have fallen behind Aguirre in the process.

Aguirre is available after ending his spell in charge of Mexico following the 2026 World Cup. Valencia regard his experience, authority and long record in Spanish football as important assets for a squad needing an immediate lift.
The appointment would mark Aguirre’s seventh job in La Liga. His previous clubs in the division include Osasuna, Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganes and Mallorca.
Contract terms are not expected to delay the move. Aguirre wants to commit until the conclusion of the current campaign, with a possible renewal for next season based on agreed objectives, led by keeping Valencia in the top flight.
Valencia are not expected to make an immediate announcement. Their first-choice option, Ernesto Valverde, declined the role as he continues his sabbatical.
Sanchez will therefore oversee the weekend trip to Real Sociedad. Once the international window begins, Valencia plan to give their new coach a three-week period at the Paterna training ground to prepare the side for the run-in.
