Saka Scores Twice as England Thrash Croatia 7-0 in Nations League
Bukayo Saka scored twice as England overwhelmed Croatia 7-0 in Rijeka, a result that lifted Thomas Tuchel’s side to six points in UEFA Nations League Group C.
The Arsenal winger struck England’s fourth goal before half-time with a close-range finish, then added his second after Croatia made a defensive mistake during the second period. His work from the right repeatedly created problems for the home defence as England produced their most emphatic result of the group campaign.
England take control in Rijeka
- England began with the high tempo and aggressive pressing that Saka said the squad had targeted from the opening whistle.
- The visitors turned that energy into a commanding lead, with Saka arriving to tap in their fourth before the interval.
- Saka punished another Croatian error after the break to complete his two-goal contribution in a 7-0 victory.
- The result moved England into second place in Group C on six points, behind Spain.
- Croatia stayed at the foot of the standings with three points.
Saka calls for another strong finish
Saka said England’s intensity and efficiency in front of goal had made the difference on a memorable evening for the squad.
“It was an amazing night,” Saka said. “We started with high energy and spirit. It was special and really enjoyable to be part of. We played with energy and were very clinical, and that made the difference.”
The 24-year-old said the display brought together the hunger, passion and quality Tuchel wants from his England side. He believes the performance reflected the standards established by the new manager, but insisted there can be no reduction in effort in the next match.
“I think we showed the hunger, the passion and the quality that we have,” Saka added. “It was a mixture of everything we are looking for as an England team in this performance. We want to finish strongly on Tuesday night.”
England will seek another three points when their Nations League campaign resumes on Tuesday, with the Croatia win underlining both their attacking strength and the need to sustain their momentum in the race at the top of Group C.
