Road to Glory Guide: Upgrade Your Player, Earn Skill Points in EA FC 27

College Football 27’s Road to Glory mode is built for players who want the full collegiate-to-pro journey: big on-field moments, weekly routine management, and the grind that leads to an NFL draft spot. It’s not only about what you do during games. Each week, you’ll have to train, complete study tasks to pass tests, develop chemistry with your teammates, and grow a fanbase strong enough to unlock brand opportunities. Just like real athletes, your character keeps evolving too—you’ll spend skill points to raise attributes, strengthen your overall performance, and stay competitive at the top level. Here’s how player upgrades and skill points work in College Football 27 Road to Glory.

If you’d like to stay in college for one additional year before you enter the NFL draft, here’s how redshirting works in College Football 27 Dynasty and RTG.

How to Upgrade Your Player in College Football 27 RTG

To upgrade your athlete, choose the “Upgrade Player” option from the main menu inside Road to Glory. That takes you to a screen that lists your player’s current stats.

Pick the stat you want to improve, then use the right analog stick to raise it by one. You can also hold L2/LT while nudging the right stick to the right to “accelerate” the upgrade. In practice, each rightward movement boosts the stat by 10 points instead of just a single point.

Raising a stat by one costs skill points, but the price climbs as the stat’s value gets higher. For instance, improving Short Passing Accuracy by one when it’s at 65 will require fewer skill points than doing the same upgrade when it’s at 85. Upgrade costs also vary based on how vital that attribute is to your position, along with your character’s height and weight.

When you’re satisfied with how you allocated your skill points, press and hold the X/A button to lock in your selections.

Road to Glory’s player upgrade approach in College Football 27 gives you deeper customization. Instead of pouring points into broad “skill groups” like Quickness or Accuracy, you can now invest directly into the individual stats that make up your player.

Legacy Scores & Max Overall

On the upgrade interface, you’ll notice a “Max” figure under your OVR (overall rating). This shows the highest OVR your player can reach right now based on your current Legacy Score.

To push your maximum overall higher, you’ll need to raise your Legacy Score. You can increase it in these ways:

  • Winning big games or defeating a rival
  • Delivering in key moments
  • Becoming an award winner
  • Winning a National Championship
  • Winning a set number of games in a single season

Cap Breakers

Cap Breakers are another stat-focused system you’ll want to understand. They function as consumables that let you raise a specific attribute beyond the original Max Potential cap established during character creation. Once you’re on the player upgrade screen, you can apply Cap Breakers to increase a chosen attribute’s ceiling, which means you can put even more skill points into that stat.

Cap Breakers are earned by winning awards, posting records, and winning championships. In a Road to Glory save, you can earn up to 25 Cap Breakers maximum.

How to Get More Skill Points in College Football 27 Road to Glory

Skill points come from your performance during games and practice sessions. That means you should consistently hit at least the “Bronze” targets in weekly training drills, and then perform well when you actually step onto the field each week.

You can also raise your XP multiplier by spending energy on improving your Leadership. Higher Leadership leads to a stronger Team XP multiplier, which boosts both team output and individual gains. Still, you’ll need to keep everything balanced, since you also have to manage Academics, Health, Fitness, and Brand.

Unlike College Football 26, there isn’t a dedicated “Training” option that lets you spend energy every week just to earn easy skill points.

The most effective way to earn skill points depends on the settings you picked when you started Road to Glory. If you’re lower on the depth chart at your position, you may be restricted to only completing the Practice session each week to earn XP and skill points. Meanwhile, weekly game XP is often very limited because your actual time on the field is either minimal or sometimes nonexistent.

Once you finally get meaningful opportunities to play, focus on hitting objectives and executing well. Doing this is the best way to secure strong XP rewards from each performance, while also impressing your coach and increasing the likelihood of more playing time in future matches.

As mentioned earlier, raising your Leadership through your Weekly Agenda each week is another method to boost your XP earnings across both practice and games.
