Pokémon Winds and Waves Reveals New Look for Water Starter Gecqua
The Pokémon Company has shared fresh visuals for the Water starter Gecqua from Pokémon Winds and Waves, giving fans something new to chew on during a stretch where big updates aren’t expected. Even with ongoing talk across the community, the games aren’t due until 2027, and without a precise window for that year, official information will likely stay thin for a while.
Starter choice is still one of the most important decisions players make at the start, and Pokémon Winds and Waves is shaping up to keep that tradition intact. The three new starters—Grass-type Browt, Fire-type Pombon, and Water-type Gecqua—each have their supporters, and plenty of players are holding off on committing until they learn more. While this latest look won’t magically change anyone’s mind about Browt or Pombon, it at least adds more clarity for players leaning toward Gecqua.
A separate rumor is also circulating about the last dual typings for each starter in Pokémon Winds and Waves—Pombon, Gecqua, and Browt.
ANA and The Pokémon Company Release New Artwork of Gecqua
The update comes in the form of official new artwork of Gecqua, paired with a look at the Water starter “plane” for ANA, the Japanese airline. Compared to the first Pokémon Winds and Waves trailer, this image reveals finer details that were harder to spot earlier. Gecqua is shown with a more quadrupedal posture, her eyes appear more defined, and it looks like she could send water out from her tail. It’s a small addition, but given how little direct commentary has come from The Pokémon Company, fans are likely to take what they can get.
ANA and The Pokémon Company recently announced a special partnership marking Pokémon’s 30th anniversary. As part of the celebration, the airline is rolling out three aircraft themed around the starter types. The plan includes a Boeing 787-8 for domestic routes and Fire Starters, a Boeing 787-9 for international routes and Grass Starters, and a Boeing 787-800 for Water Starters. Inside each plane, passengers will get immersive cabin touches such as Pokémon-themed headrest covers, commemorative boarding stickers, limited-edition cups, and additional themed surprises.
As for when fans will see more of Pokémon Winds and Waves, some long-range expectations are already being set. Reliable insiders have suggested the wait could be substantial, with the games reportedly aiming for a later 2027 release. They also point to the idea that official updates may not show up until 2027—potentially around February for the next Pokémon Day. That’s a long gap, but it’s also a reminder that fans of the franchise don’t always need more than imagination and speculation to stay engaged.

There’s no shortage of material for the community in the meantime: strong fan art exploring possible new Pokémon for a Southeast Asia-inspired region, artwork focused on potential starter evolutions, and ongoing design/evolution rumors tied to Winds and Waves. Hopefully, when the games eventually arrive, they’ll match the creativity and expectations already building around them.
