Pokemon GO Charged Embers Timed Research: Best Route to Pick (Explore, Catch, Battle)

Starting June 30 at 10:00 a.m. local time, and running until Friday, July 3 at 8:00 p.m. local time, Pokemon GO will let you tackle the Charged Embers Timed Research by picking one of three routes: Explore, Catch, or Battle. The big question is what each route pays out—and which one is likely the easiest to finish during the four-day window. Here’s the full breakdown, including the tasks and rewards.

A complete list of all seven Pokemon GO Lure Evolutions and the candy requirements for each of them.

All Paths and Rewards for Charged Embers in Pokemon GO

Even though the objectives change, the actual end rewards do not. No matter whether you choose Catch, Battle, or Explore, you’ll still receive encounters with Magmar and Electabuzz from Kanto, plus Golden Razz Berries and Rare Candy.

That said, the path you select matters because the day-to-day tasks are very different. Depending on how you normally play, one route may feel far simpler than the others.

Explore Path for Charged Embers

The Explore route focuses on walking and general “get outside” activities. Expect tasks centered on hatching eggs, following Routes, and racking up distance on foot. If you mainly play Pokemon GO while seated at home or at your desk, this likely won’t be your best fit. As a helpful bonus, choosing this route grants 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance, which can make egg-based goals easier to knock out.

  • Spin 25 PokeStops or Gyms

Total Reward: 3 Golden Razz Berries and 5 Rare Candies

Catch Path for Charged Embers

Choosing Catch means spending more time interacting with wild Pokemon—tossing Poke Balls and catching frequently. If you have lure modules and Incense available, you can draw Pokemon in and do more of the work in one place, which can reduce how much you need to roam. If you aren’t a big walker, this can be a strong option. On this route, you also get extra Candy for catching Pokemon using Nice Throws or better.

  • Make 15 Great Curveball Throws

Battle Path for Charged Embers

For the Battle route, you’ll be completing combat-focused objectives: beat at least six raids, defeat 16 Team GO Rocket Grunts, and land Supereffective attacks during battles. This route isn’t necessarily the hardest on paper, but it does require moving around to run raids and to locate Grunts. You can also consider Remote Raid Passes, but that will cost you.

If you pick this path, you earn extra Mysterious Components for defeating Grunts. Collect six of these components, and you can craft a Rocket Radar to track down Team GO Rocket Leaders: Sierra, Arlo, or Cliff.

  • Use 10 Supereffective Charged Attacks
