Naruto Power Levels: 8 Characters Who Could Break the Moon, Ranked

In Naruto, the Moon is not just a backdrop—it was created around a millennium ago through a strengthened form of Chibaku Tensei. The result was used to trap Kaguya Otsutsuki, serving as both her prison and a normal-looking celestial body. Over the years, fans have watched Naruto introduce plenty of overwhelming powerhouses, and a select few are strong enough to shatter the Moon if they ever got the chance.

In practical terms, any Naruto character who could realistically destroy the Moon is operating at Kage level or above. For some, it would take time to wear the Moon down through repeated jutsu. Others, though, could plausibly do it with a single strike. Several of these top-tier threats also have access to Truth-Seeking Balls—God-tier tools that can turn “impossible” into “inevitable.”

Madara Uchiha is one of the series’ most recognizable villains, and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex sets him up with what’s framed as a perfect successor.

8 Deidara Could Probably Destroy the Moon With His Kekkei Genkai

Deidara might have been the youngest member of the Akatsuki, but that never stopped him from clearing high-level opponents. He was strong enough to take down a Kage and even knock out a Tailed Beast. His specialty was the Explosion Release Kekkei Genkai, letting his chakra behave explosively. In his usual style, Deidara mixed that chakra into clay, shaping it into bombs of different sizes; in some cases, he could even create microscopic explosive units that would break down living beings at the cellular level.

With C0, Deidara could wipe out everything inside a six-mile radius, but that move still wouldn’t work against the Moon in a straightforward way. C0 is a one-and-done technique that costs the user their life. However, an animated “reanimated” Deidara changes the equation—regeneration means he could theoretically cycle C0 repeatedly. His C3 explosions can level an entire village, and while it would require a massive supply of clay and dozens of C3 setups, the end result could still be the Moon being blown apart.

7 Onoki Should Be Able to Destroy the Moon With Dust Release

Onoki served as the Hidden Stone Village’s Third Tsuchikage for more than forty years, putting him among the strongest shinobi in history. He mastered Earth Release and built up an enormous amount of battlefield experience, and he was also one of the rare users of Dust Release. This exceptional Kekkei Tota blends earth, wind, and fire—effective as long as the target can’t absorb chakra.

Dust Release lets Onoki shape chakra into three-dimensional constructs with his hands. From there, he can fire them at astonishing speed or create a cylindrical beam. Anything caught in Dust Release gets disintegrated at the molecular level. That means Onoki could bombard the Moon with repeated cubes or spheres until nothing remains, or he could use the beam approach—similar to how he cut through Madara’s Wood Release during the Fourth Great Ninja War.

6 Toneri Otsutsuki Could Cleave the Moon in Half With His Tenseigan Chakra Mode

Toneri is the last surviving member of the Otsutsuki Clan’s branch family on the Moon. When he first appeared to the Ninja World, he tried to wipe out humanity by using the Moon itself as a weapon—attempting to crash it into Earth as punishment for how people weaponized chakra. Up to this point, Toneri is the only character who has come close to actually destroying the Moon. In his default form, he can’t do much to the Moon, but Tenseigan Chakra Mode is a different story.

In that powered state, Toneri manifests nine Truth-Seeking Balls, each capable of disintegrating matter. By fusing those orbs into a single massive golden chakra sword, Toneri is shown cutting the entire Moon in half with one slash. If Naruto hadn’t stopped him, Toneri could have kept slicing until the Moon was reduced into a collection of asteroids.

With abilities this extreme, it’s no surprise that some Naruto characters can come across as nearly immortal.

5 Madara Uchiha Could Destroy the Moon With His Rinnegan or Jinchuriki Form

Madara Uchiha reached godlike power during the Fourth Great Ninja War, when he became the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails. In doing so, he gained ten Truth-Seeking Balls. As with Toneri, the theoretical play is combining them into a large weapon that can either punch through the Moon or slice it into fragments. Notably, Madara doesn’t even need to be in a Jinchuriki state to break the Moon—his Rinnegan alone is enough.

The Rinnegan is among the rarest abilities in Naruto, and its Deva Path grants Madara control over attraction and repulsion forces. During the war, Madara erased thousands of ninja by pulling meteorites down from space. That same Deva Path could be used to throw meteorites—or even larger rock bodies—at the Moon repeatedly until it shatters.

4 Kaguya Otsutsuki Could Obliterate the Moon With Her Expansive Truth-Seeking Ball Technique

Like the rest of the Otsutsuki Clan, Kaguya had godlike capabilities. She could manipulate her own bone structure and move through dimensional rifts. She could place the entire world under the effect of Infinite Tsukuyomi, and she had instant teleportation to different dimensions for herself and others. Her All-Killing Ash Bones technique may be able to disintegrate living beings, but it likely wouldn’t meaningfully damage the Moon.

The Expansive Truth-Seeking Ball is another one of Kaguya’s Kekkei Mora ninjutsu techniques. It requires all the chakra collected from Infinite Tsukuyomi victims, then turns that energy into a massive Truth-Seeking Ball. That weapon has the power to erase entire worlds and then reshape what remains. If Kaguya used it on the Moon, the end result would be that there’s nothing left of it.

3 Sasuke Uchiha Could Destroy the Moon With Indra’s Arrow

Sasuke hit a new power peak after gaining the Rinnegan in his left eye, and his abilities only became more dangerous as he grew older. His strength rose to the point where he can face Kaguya-tier threats on his own. With Susanoo, Sasuke can summon a gigantic, armored samurai-like form that can slice mountains in half with a single strike. If he had enough time, Susanoo could carve its way through the Moon using its blades.

Indra’s Arrow is still widely treated as the most powerful jutsu in Sasuke’s kit, and it’s an ability that effectively places him among the strongest ninja alive. By pulling chakra from all nine tailed beasts into Susanoo, Sasuke can create a massive longbow and arrow infused with lightning chakra. The shot can vaporize a small area—and if Sasuke fired it straight into the Moon’s center, it would explode in a way likened to Star Wars’ Death Star.

2 Naruto Could Destroy the Moon Using the Power of the Nine-Tails

At the start of the series, Naruto was a trouble-prone kid with limited natural talent, but by the end he became one of the most powerful ninja of all time. He was a perfect Jinchuriki, meaning he could tap into all the Nine-Tails’ chakra. He also had chakra reserves from the other Tailed Beasts. Like Sasuke, that puts him in a position where he can take on an opponent as formidable as Kaguya himself.

As a Perfect Jinchuriki, Naruto can use the Tailed Beast Ball, which can instantly obliterate an entire village. If he truly wanted to destroy the Moon, Naruto would only need to fire Tailed Beast Balls back-to-back until it’s completely gone. With Six Paths Sage Mode, Naruto could additionally use the Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken to cut through the Moon and reduce it to pieces.

Sasuke’s return in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is getting closer, and he could come back with a fresh transformation.

1 Hagoromo Otsutsuki Can Destroy the Moon With the Sword of Nunoboko

Hagoromo—also known as the Sage of Six Paths—serves as proof that the Otsutsuki Clan is, in fact, the strongest clan in Naruto. He was the first Jinchuriki, sealing the Ten-Tails within himself, and because he can create life from nothing, he split the monster into the nine Tailed Beasts. With the Rinnegan, he would likely be able to throw celestial objects at the Moon and destroy it.

Hagoromo can manifest up to ten Truth-Seeking Balls, and he can combine them to form the Sword of Nunoboko. This legendary holy blade is described as resembling a double helix, and it’s said to be able to reshape the world by destroying it first. Since the sword is capable of destroying every known form of matter, it could plausibly slice directly through the Moon.
