Moise Kean Set to Miss Roma Clash After Italy Injury Dispute
Cesc Fabregas has criticised the handling of Kean during the latest international break after the forward returned with an injury that will rule him out for seven to 10 days, including Como’s Serie A meeting with Roma.
International break leaves Kean sidelined
- Kean suffered a knock in Italy’s first match of the window against Belgium.
- Despite that problem, he went on to complete 90 minutes in a subsequent international fixture.
- He also featured during the break against France, before his condition worsened and he was unavailable for the final game against Türkiye in Bologna.
- An MRI scan following his return to the club identified the issue, with Kean now set to train separately as part of an individual recovery plan.
Fabregas said the diagnosis showed the striker had played while injured and argued that communication between the federation and the club needed to be stronger. The Como coach confirmed that Kean would miss around a week to 10 days, removing a key attacking option for the Roma fixture.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder’s central concern was that the initial knock had been allowed to develop during the international camp. Italy played four matches across 11 days during the September and October window, placing a heavy physical demand on the squad.
Italy medical staff reject communication concerns
Angelo De Carli, Italy’s chief medical officer, responded to the criticism by insisting that the national side’s doctors remained in regular contact with club medical departments.
De Carli said the federation’s staff routinely update club doctors before, during and after international camps, adding that the same process had been followed throughout the most recent window.
The differing assessments leave an apparent disagreement over the seriousness of the knock Kean initially sustained. While Italy maintain their medical procedures were followed properly, Fabregas believes the episode underlines the need for clearer information-sharing between clubs and national teams.
Roma absence confirmed
Kean’s rehabilitation will now be managed at club level, with the forward certain to miss the high-profile Serie A contest against Roma. His expected absence comes at a demanding point of the season for Fabregas, who must prepare without one of his principal attacking threats.
The dispute also reflects a wider concern among club coaches over international schedules, player workload and the responsibility for decisions made when a footballer carries a physical complaint into multiple fixtures.
