Marmoush: Tottenham Close to Turning Performances Into Results

Omar Marmoush believes Tottenham are close to converting encouraging performances into results after their difficult opening to the Premier League campaign continued with a Carabao Cup exit at Liverpool.

Spurs search for a breakthrough

Roberto De Zerbi’s team have collected two points from their first four league fixtures, while their only goals of the season have arrived in the Carabao Cup. Tottenham were eliminated from that competition on Wednesday after losing 3-1 at Anfield.

Conor Gallagher headed Spurs’ goal in the 69th minute, their first against Premier League opposition since the final day of last season. The strike briefly gave the visitors momentum, but they were unable to find the goal that would have drawn them level.

Marmoush sees progress despite Anfield defeat

Marmoush, the Egypt international who joined on loan in the summer, said Mamardashvili had been among the standout performers at Anfield. Tottenham are obliged to make the move permanent at the end of the season in a deal worth £60 million, reported as $80.6 million.

The forward said Spurs have repeatedly reached dangerous positions and possess quality both in the starting side and among the substitutes. He believes the team will improve rapidly once the marginal moments begin to fall in their favour.

“The goalkeeper produced an incredible stop and was one of the game’s best players,” Marmoush said. “We are getting into the box so often, and the quality is there throughout the squad. When those fine details come together, things will look very good.”

He added that the chances being created have increased from match to match and said he was convinced Tottenham were not far from a turning point.

Call for unity and squad updates

Marmoush said the recent frustrations could still help forge a stronger group, arguing that players, coaches, staff and supporters must remain together as Spurs try to meet their objectives.

There was better news in defence, with De Zerbi confirming that Pedro Porro should be available for Saturday’s match against Aston Villa. The full-back has missed Tottenham’s past two games because of a muscle injury.
