Klopp Backs Barcelona Forward Adeyemi After Netherlands Miss

Germany coach Jürgen Klopp has backed Karim Adeyemi after the Barcelona forward missed a close-range chance in the 1-1 Nations League draw with the Netherlands at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Adeyemi, who joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, was unable to convert Nathaniel Brown’s delivery when Germany had the opportunity to move two goals ahead. The miss drew attention after the match, but Klopp made clear that he viewed it as an unusual moment rather than a reflection of the 24-year-old’s finishing ability.

Asked about the opportunity, Klopp initially responded with a laugh, asking which missed chance was being referenced. He then insisted that Adeyemi would usually score in that situation, even with a bouncing ball played at pace.

The Germany manager also addressed the pressure attached to high-profile errors at international level. He said handling disappointment is one of the hardest parts of a player’s career, particularly when the moment comes in a major Nations League fixture, but stressed that Adeyemi had produced plenty of positive passages during the game.

Klopp highlights Adeyemi’s qualities

Klopp described Adeyemi as an excellent person and praised the breadth of his attacking game. He pointed to the forward’s pace and his capacity to decide whether to control the ball with either foot while running at speed.

While accepting that the Barcelona attacker can improve, Klopp maintained that the overall performance should not be judged solely through the missed opening. His message was that Adeyemi has the attributes to respond and continue progressing.

Wirtz will not be rushed against Greece

Klopp was also questioned about Florian Wirtz, who arrived late in the Germany squad after Jamal Musiala suffered an injury. The Liverpool playmaker, previously with Bayer Leverkusen, is in contention as Germany prepare for their next Nations League match against Greece.

However, Klopp rejected the suggestion that Wirtz should be placed immediately into the starting side, saying that doing so would be the worst possible approach at this stage.

Instead, the Germany coach wants to give Wirtz sufficient time on the training pitch before building up his involvement. Klopp said the priority is to help the midfielder settle into the group, gain confidence and collect positive experiences rather than placing excessive demands on him too quickly.
