England Hit Back Against Spain as Gordon and Kane Score in Four Minutes
England recovered from an early Lamine Yamal strike to lead Spain 2-1 at Wembley, with Anthony Gordon and Harry Kane scoring four minutes apart in a sharp turnaround for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Spain had made the ideal start in the Nations League contest, taking the lead inside two minutes after Marc Guehi lost possession outside the England penalty area. Yamal seized on the error, carried the ball into the box and bent a finish off the inside of the post beyond James Trafford.
The Barcelona teenager’s effort was the third-fastest goal England have conceded at Wembley Stadium.
Spain’s aggressive pressing and quick breaks caused England problems throughout the opening half-hour. Ferran Torres had a volley ruled out for offside before missing a clear one-on-one chance after Rodri released him with a precise pass.
England strike twice before half-time
Having struggled to establish control early on, England found their equaliser in the 36th minute. Spain committed bodies forward and England broke at speed, moving the ball through the transition before Gordon applied a composed finish.
The goal altered the atmosphere at Wembley and England quickly added a second. Kane met a cross at the far post with a forceful header, although the ball took a notable touch off Marc Cucurella on its way past Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon.
The deflection wrong-footed Simon and carried the ball over the line, completing England’s rapid comeback after Yamal’s early breakthrough.
