With Apple’s September event approaching, fresh rumors are focusing on what the iPhone 18 base model could gain—even if the standard handset isn’t expected to be unveiled at the showcase. One analyst claims it may bring “Pro-level” upgrades that would narrow the gap between the entry model and the Pro lineup.

Rumors suggest the iPhone 18 is expected to launch in early 2027, alongside additional models including the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. Apple’s September event, however, is expected to spotlight the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with eight new products in total planned for the event.
Even without an iPhone 18 base reveal at the event, technology analyst Jeff Pu is reportedly pointing to two upgrades that could land on the standard iPhone 18. In a research note shared with 9to5Mac, Pu says he analyzed sources and checked parts of the supply chain, concluding the following features are “expectable”:
- 12 GB RAM
- A smaller Dynamic Island design

Pu’s claims would represent a step up from the iPhone 17, which reportedly shipped with 8 GB of RAM. The rumor landscape is currently mixed, though: Ming-Chi Kuo has reportedly previously mentioned 9 GB of RAM for the iPhone 18, contradicting Pu’s 12 GB figure.
Dynamic Island sizing is also a point of disagreement. Additional chatter from UniverseIce on X has suggested the iPhone 18 Pro could feature a smaller Dynamic Island, reportedly shrinking by about 35%. Pu’s report goes further by implying that a smaller Dynamic Island design could also arrive on the base iPhone 18, potentially accelerating the feature’s rollout to the non-Pro model.
