Checklists
Upton Travers is an Assassin contact for a Templar Hunt in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. He’s located in the pirate haven of Nassau, and he wants Edward’s assistance with issues involving his family. In exchange for helping him, Upton offers a shiny Templar Key. Completing his part of the hunt also advances your progress toward unlocking the Templar Armor in Great Inagua.
Upton Travers Templar Hunt
Upton Travers’ Templar Hunt is broken up into four smaller side quests. They are:
- Oh Brother…
- The Other Brother
- Upton’s Sorrow
- Queen of Pirates, King of Fools
Oh Brother…
The first quest in this Templar Hunt is started by Vance Travers, who waits for you on a porch near the coast of Nassau. Vance directs you to Upton Travers, his brother, claiming Upton is betraying the Brotherhood by handing over a treasure map to the Templars.
In Nassau, you’ll spot two of Upton’s men walking down the main street to the west of Vance. You can follow them quietly to their stop, or you can skip that leg of the route by double-assassinating them and looting the bodies right away. Either approach is fine and does not change how the quest resolves.
When you reach Upton’s hideout, you’ll see him standing in the open courtyard as if he’s inviting the assassination. A few guards roam the area, but you can close the distance by dropping from the rooftops into the tall grass.
Once you actually “assassinate” Upton, the quest finishes immediately. You don’t need to worry about every other enemy in the courtyard. After the dust settles, it becomes clear that Upton is actually connected to the local Bureau, which means Vance’s story was likely fabricated.
The Other Brother
The next chapter, The Other Brother, is given by Upton rather than Vance. Meet Upton west of his hideout to begin the investigation.
Follow Upton as he explains how the treasure map works. Each brother holds a separate portion of the map, and Vance appears to be trying to grab both segments for the Templars.
To secure proof, crouch in the bushes with white flowers so you can overhear the brothers’ conversation. When they start speaking, press the Triangle button to listen in.
After the talk ends, follow Upton to Vance’s house. The location is protected by four Templars who are working for Jing Lang, who is Vance’s Templar partner.
Start by double-assassinating the two guards you can reach from the path near the bushes. Then clear the remaining two defenders at the front entrance. Keep in mind that brutes absorb damage unless you first break through their guard with a pistol shot.
With the area cleared, check the northern side of the house. Under an awning, you’ll find a note resting on a table that points to the location of the upcoming meeting between Vance and Jing Lang.
Go to the meeting point near the local tavern and eavesdrop on their conversation. You’ll need to listen from a particular spot beneath the small wooden staircase.
The conversation confirms that Vance has dispatched assassins after his brother. Immediately after hearing this, rush south and protect Upton before he gets hurt. You can start the skirmish with a quick assassination from nearby rooftops, but once the fight begins you’ll have to finish things up face to face.
Upton’s Sorrow
After the assassination attempt, you can begin Upton’s Sorrow at the local tavern. Upton doesn’t seem to be taking the betrayal very well.
To complete the quest, you simply need to follow Upton as he drunkenly moves through Nassau. The run begins with a fistfight against two unarmed drunkards. Use a sweeping kick (R2 + X) to break them down quickly so you can take them out more easily.
Once the initial fight is over, keep tracking Upton through town. He passes by the church and starts talking to a group of dancers. Give them some coin, then continue following him as he wanders onward.
Eventually, Upton stops to relieve himself into a bucket along the roadside. The guards respond strongly to public indecency, so you’ll be forced into another defense—again.
When you defeat every guard that shows up, Upton regains his senses and the quest wraps up.
There’s also a chest containing 180 Reales underneath the nearby staircase.
Queen of Pirates, King of Fools
The final quest in this Templar Hunt is Queen of Pirates, King of Fools. You’ll locate Upton waiting for you at the swampy outer edges of Nassau, to the west.
Now it’s time to assassinate Vance. He’s positioned deep in the swamp area, but you can bypass most of the guards by moving along the tree branches to reach your target faster.
When you reach Vance, you can assassinate him safely from a branch. After he’s killed, the guards around the area despawn, so you don’t need to fight through the whole swamp crowd. His camp also contains another chest you can loot.
Once Vance is removed, Jing Lang arrives. Chase her down the path to reach the ultimate confrontation. She’s immune to damage until she turns around to face you, so don’t waste ammo before she commits to the fight.
Jing Lang calls in two standard guards as support. Still, the encounter is manageable: one quick parry lets you transition into chained takedowns against all three opponents, including Jing Lang. When the fight starts, there’s also a chest located to the left of Jing Lang.
After taking down Jing Lang, return to Upton to finish the Templar Hunt.
There are still three other Templar Hunts waiting in Black Flag Resynced after this one, so your run isn’t finished yet. When you’re ready to hunt more Templar Keys, sail toward these next targets:
- Anto
- Opia Apito
- Rhona Dinsmore
