Harry Kane scores in eighth straight Champions League game for Bayern
Harry Kane moved alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy after scoring in an eighth successive Champions League appearance during Bayern Munich’s 5-0 win over Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.
The England captain struck Bayern’s second goal as they opened their Champions League campaign with an emphatic home result. Jamal Musiala scored first, Alphonso Davies also found the net, and Michael Olise completed the rout with two late goals.
Kane joins rare Champions League company
Kane’s current run of eight consecutive scoring matches in the competition is matched by only three other players. Ronaldo remains the benchmark, having scored in 11 straight Champions League games during the 2017-18 season. The Portuguese forward also put together an eight-match sequence for Real Madrid in 2013-14.
Lewandowski twice reached nine consecutive Champions League matches with a goal while at Bayern, while Van Nistelrooy scored in nine in a row for Manchester United in 2002-03.
The goal against Bodo/Glimt continued a prolific period for Kane, who registered 71 goals across 61 matches for club and country last season.
Ballon d’Or focus remains on voters
Kane is among the nominees for next month’s Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, where he is in contention to become England’s first winner since Michael Owen. Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi are also on the shortlist.
“I am proud to be nominated alongside my teammates,” Kane said after the victory.
He reflected on Bayern’s previous campaign, in which they won all three domestic trophies in Germany but missed out in the Champions League, adding that the award will be decided by the voters.
“It was a special season on a personal level, but my attention can only be on this season now,” Kane said.
